Horror Queers Halloween

We Need to Talk About Cameron….

After touring the streets of Los Angeles in David Lynch’s masterpiece Mulholland Drive, we went all the way back to the ’30s to check in with Countess Zaleska in Lambert Hillyer’s queer horror classic Dracula’s Daughter, before hitting the road with Steve Zahn and Paul Walker in Joy Ride. Now, in celebration of the release of Halloween Kills this past weekend, we’re heading back to Haddonfield to discuss David Gordon Green‘s 2018 sequel Halloween!

It’s been 40 years since Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) survived a vicious attack from crazed killer Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney) on Halloween night. Locked up in an institution, Myers manages to escape when his bus transfer goes horribly wrong. Laurie now faces a terrifying showdown when the masked madman returns to Haddonfield, Ill. — but this time, she’s ready for him.

Episode 147 – Halloween (2018)

Pull your phone out of that pudding because we’re heading to Haddonfield to revisit David Gordon Green’s 2018 sequel to Halloween titled…Halloween! Tapping in for the discussion is Richard Newby, the author of the horror short story collection We Make Monsters Here!

Join us as we take a deep dive into this legacy sequel that wants to remind us of every previous sequel in the franchise despite also wanting us to forget about them. We’ll discuss the film’s portrayal of trauma and how it compares to the portrayal in Halloween: H20. Oh, and how about the 30 minutes of deleted scenes (not all of which are on the Blu)?

Plus, Joe’s magical talents, Creighton Duke, British Ellie Kemper, baby-killing, Bánh Mi, “Gotcha!” and…..is that the same wig from 1981’s Halloween II just spray-painted gray? Oh, and we need to talk about Cameron…

Cross out Halloween!

Coming up on Wednesday: We’re going back to the original Marvel vampire movie with a discussion of 1998’s Blade!

“Life was a wheel, its only job was to turn, and it always came back to where it started.”

The Losers’ Club: A Stephen King Podcast heads to Frazier, New Hampshire to review Stephen King’s 2013 novel, Doctor Sleep. The sequel to 1977’s The Shining follows a much-older Danny Torrance, whose battle with alcoholism becomes all the more complicated when he crosses paths with a young child who also has the shine.

Join Losers Randall Colburn, Michael Roffman, and Dan Caffrey as they discuss the True Knot, dirty dishes with poundcake, and debate if King should have ever burned down The Overlook Hotel. Note: This episode was recorded in 2019 and is being re-released today as part of their ensuing chronological read-through.

Stream the discussion below and stay tuned next week for an episode on Bryan Fuller’s Carrie. For further adventures, join the Club over long days and pleasant nights via Apple Podcasts, Spotify, RadioPublic, Acast, Google Podcasts, and RSS.
