‘Happy Gilmore’ Edited as a Horror Film Turns Shooter McGavine Into the Hero
In Dennis Dugan‘s Happy Gilmore (1996), Adam Sandler plays a rejected hockey player who puts his skills to the golf course to save his grandmother’s house. The comedy comes from Sandler’s performance as the film’s title character, a madman with a temper problem who just wants the ball to go in the hole. He’s constantly challenged by his peers, including super-asshole, Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald).
Someone over at Funny or Die recognized how bizarre it was for the protagonist to be such a hot-head, and flipped the roles between Happy and Shooter. The result is absolutely perfect. In the below faux trailer, which runs a bit too long, Shooter is the protagonist who is fearing Happy’s methodical plot for murder. There are moments from the film that lend itself beautifully to this reworking, which is easily the best since The Santa Clause horror trailer from last year.
Can you believe this year marks the 25TH ANNIVERSARY of Bloody Disgusting?! We’re not going anywhere anytime soon, and we hope you’re not either.
On that note, we thought it might be fun to fire up monthly discussion threads where you can essentially use the comments sections of those articles to ask us anything. Sure, we’re always hanging around in the comments sections of different articles here and there when we can, but these will be dedicated spaces that we can repeatedly come back to throughout each month to answer questions and chat about what’s going on in the world of horror.
