The forthcoming eleventh season of FOX’s “The X-Files,” which will begin right where we left off last season, will be home to 10 brand spankin’ new episodes.
EW today previewed the new season, showing off the first two images while also revealing what we can expect from the return of Mulder and Scully next year. For starters, we’re happy to report that 8 of the 10 episodes will be of the “monster-of-the-week” variety!
The site previewed the first three episodes…
“After episode one delves into the Cigarette Smoking Man’s (William B. Davis) backstory and apparent family ties to Mulder, the second hour opens with a time jump to put distance between Mulder and Scully and the events of the premiere. And episode three is a darkly comedic hour, penned by Carter, focusing on doubles and doppelgängers.”
They continue, “But beyond the humor, the larger mythology of The X-Files — like the fallout from Scully’s abduction and the chip that was implanted in her neck — continues to shape Mulder and Scully’s world.”
Chris Carter also noted to the site that William, Mulder and Scully’s child, will “come to the fore,” presenting new challenges for the duo – possibly bringing them closer together.

Mitch Pileggi, Annabeth Gish and Barbara Hershey are confirmed for the new season.
