Hauntfest Event For ‘H1Z1’ Rises Later Today

Published

on

In spite of Just Survive being retired, Daybreak Games are still forging ahead with H1Z1 and its Halloween event. In fact, the servers will be headed offline later today (11am EST for North America) and tomorrow (12am CEST for Europe) in order to bring the update online.

Hauntfest, as it’s called, will be available for players from October 23 to November 6. You’ll automatically unlock it just by logging in, and you can increase your Hauntfest Event Pass tier through the usual methods – by completing Challenges or increasing your Season Level.

Each tier you achieve will grant you Treat Crates, which can contain Hauntfest Event Pass Medals, Credits, or the brand new Dead Man’s Chest, which is filled with appropriately spooky skins. You’ll also find Treat Crates randomly around the world.

Some specifics about the Dead Man’s Chests: Common-tier items inside the Dead Man’s Chest are no-dupe, meaning that when you open a Dead Man’s Chest and it’s a common item, you won’t receive the same item again until you’ve unlocked all the other common items inside.

You’ll also potentially find Tactical Masks in the crates. Collect all 10, and you’ll automatically unlock an added bonus – the full Green Bone set! This set contains the Green Bone Skull Mask, Hoodie, Work Boots, Baggy Pants, Body Armor, and Magnum.

For more info on the event, you can check out the official site.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
