Things aren’t looking too great for Starbreeze at the moment. With the lukewarm reception and so-so reviews for Overkill’s The Walking Dead, the subsequent low sales, Starbreeze’s money troubles and unwanted publicity, this next piece of news isn’t surprising, but at the same time, troubling.
According to a brief Worthplaying article, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ports of Overkill’s The Walking Dead, which were scheduled for release on February 6, 2019, have been postponed. “Starbreeze is currently evaluating and reviewing the performance of the game Overkill’s The Walking Dead on consoles,” reads the statement. The brief goes on to say that Starbreeze promises “further information regarding the future release will be announced at a later date.”
This news also brings into question just what Starbreeze plans to do with the game overall, as its most recent seasonal DLC content, “On The Run”, was released for free back in December. The Starter Edition hasn’t budged the active player numbers, which now hover around 1,000. Meanwhile, Starbreeze’s Payday 2 still clocks in over 11,000 players since its release back in 2013.
