New ‘System Shock’ Demo Available Now for Steam Next Fest

Published

on

With Steam Next Fest underway, Nightdive has released a brand-new demo for their upcoming System Shock remake, which is expected to arrive next month. The new demo offers up several new goodies for fans, including a brand-new intro, revamped enemy AI, and plenty of that dismemberment that we got a glimpse of in the last Kickstarter update.

The first thing you’ll notice with the new demo is a brand-new introduction sequence for System Shock that “sets the mood and stage for what’s to come once they arrive at Citadel Station.” Additionally, the demo does a bit of world-building, offering up a glimpse at what life was like as a denizen of 2072 New Atlanta.

Citadel Station, on the other hand, has seen better days. The Medical level is in disarray with debris and clutter, alongside a few new enemies eager to make your acquaintance.

“There are also some new machines found across the level: Vending Machines to satiate the thirstiest of Hackers, Recycling Stations to earn some extra cred, Transdermal Dispensers for those who need a pick-me-up, and a mysterious Mod-Kit station. The new demo additionally adds improved controller support.”

System Shock is available to pre-order now for PC via Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, and will also be releasing on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, and the Xbox One.

Get up to Speed With the Story for ‘Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II’ [Trailer]

Six days ahead of the launch of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Microsoft and Ninja Theory have decided to drop a little recap trailer for those who “walked in late”. In other words, if you missed out on playing the excellent Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, this new video explains the events that transpired prior to Hellblade II.

For those that do need reminding, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (which is available on Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch) centres on Senua,  a Celtic warrior who embarks on a vision quest into Viking Hell to fight for the soul of her dead lover. The BAFTA-winning title is noteworthy for its frank and novel approach to psychosis, coupled with its excellent story and characters.

The sequel, which was announced back in 2019, once again centres on Senua, who sets out on “a brutal journey of survival through the myth and torment of Viking Iceland”, intent on saving those who have suffered under Norse tyranny. No longer seeing her condition as a curse, Senua now uses her condition to aid her in battle.

Hellblade II features a revamped fighting system from the previous game, which aims to have the player feel the visceral combat, which has been “made to feel like you’re really there with [Senua]“.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II will arrive on PC via Steam, Xbox Series, and day one on Xbox Game Pass.
