With the success of Blood Pact Studios’ Retro Rewind, you knew that someone would come along and put a horror spin on it. That’s what Stingbot Games is doing with Victor’s Video Vault, their first-person horror game that takes players back to a video rental store in 1995, where the closing shift doesn’t end when the doors lock.
Players take on the role of a night shift employee at working alone at the eponymous Video Vault. Your usual routine is to stock shelves, help out customers, and prepare the store for closing. However, when the last customer leaves, and what follows isn’t routine.
The final rental of the night begins to rewrite reality inside the store. Each night is shaped by the film that just left the building. One night, the store floods, forcing you through rising water while something hunts you from beneath the waters. The next, a crashed alien vessel turns the aisles into a living hive. As the store begins to break down, you must adapt to shifting rules, altered spaces, and escalating threats.
Those “shifting rules” include the actual layout of the store, its physics, and behavior. Every film follows its own logic. You’ll need to solve environmental puzzles, uncover what’s changing, and make it through the night.
There’s also the Archive Mode, a separate replayable mode where you go back further to 1990, and uncover the Vault’s first outbreaks. You’ll be searching the store, documenting anomalies, and uncover what it’s becoming. You’ll be making use of your journal in order to record the phenomena, and track what you discover as each run reveals new details.
