Toronto After Dark Film Festival has just announced its first batch of exciting new horror, sci-fi, action, and cult feature films that will be premiering at the festival’s fourth annual event this August 14-21, 2009. Below you’ll find the first batch of films announced, with plenty more goodies forthcoming. Visit the official website to keep updated on the big event.
The initial lineup includes a number of critically acclaimed films from around the world including the much-anticipated Halloween-set creepfest TRICK `R’ TREAT starring TRUE BLOOD’S Anna Paquin, and GRACE, the shocking zombie baby movie from Canada that had audience members fainting during its rollout at Sundance! Fans who prefer genre films of a more fantastic nature have a special treat in store with the North American Premiere of the new British thriller FRANKLYN that merges present day London with a futuristic steampunk world, and stars Ryan Phillippe and Eva Green (CASINO ROYALE).
The insane stunt-work on show in the crowd-pleasing new French diamond heist movie BLACK will delight action-lovers, while those who prefer their thrills Asian, bloody and bizarre need look no further than the twisted Japanese romantic horror comedy VAMPIRE GIRL VS FRANKENSTEIN GIRL from the makers of last year’s festival hit, TOKYO GORE POLICE. The festival’s first Brazilian feature EMBODIMENT OF EVIL signals a bloody return to form of the legendary Latin horror icon, Coffin Joe. Meanwhile TADFF’s first Indonesian film, THE FORBIDDEN DOOR is a dark and twisted thriller from an up and coming master of the genre. Finally, SOMEONE’S KNOCKING AT THE DOOR will have cult film fans delirious with its psychedelic spin on the classic serial killer genre.
Individual tickets go on sale on July 29, the same day Toronto After Dark will be releasing its complete festival lineup including 9 more feature film announcements, and the entire film schedule. Or you can opt to pre-order a Festival All-Access Pass, which is already on advance sale at just $99. The passes give fans priority entry to all 18 screenings including the Opening and Closing Galas and Parties.
