NECA Reveals Jason Figure Based On Abysmal 1989 Game

I never got around to playing the NES game based on the Friday the 13th franchise, mostly because I was one year-old and that sort of game isn’t appropriate for anyone under three. Probably for the best, because I’ve since heard that it’s not all that fun to play. One year-old Adam wouldn’t have approved of those poorly conceived dodge mechanics, I can guarantee you that.

To me, the most controversial thing about it is Jason, who happens to be sporting a purple jumpsuit and neon blue mask. Jason can’t pull off those colors, he’s strictly a brown and grey sort of fellow. I fully support throwing in a muted green here and there to mix things up, but blue and purple? No sir. I’d say this guy is best left in the past, so as to keep that neon vomit away from the general public. It would seem the fine folks at NECA would disagree.

Image From ‘Godzilla’ Comic-Con Teaser Makes Its Way Online

Legendary and Warner Bros.’ have shared an image related to their upcoming Godzilla remake. I say “related” because it’s from the Comic-Con teaser that premiered – and somehow didn’t leak (impressive) – back in July. The film hasn’t actually started shooting, but since the teaser was cut to give us (and the studio) an approximation of director Gareth Edwards’ approach I think it’s indicative of the scale of destruction we’ll be seeing in the film.

Last week producer Dan Lin told Collider, “We’re planning to film in March. We are in deep pre-production. Gareth [Edwards] has really mapped out his vision for the movie, you saw the teaser, but Gareth thanks to Thomas Tull’s help he took over a whole stage on the Warner Brothers lot and not only showed the teaser you saw, he had some models built of Godzilla, he had art decorated all over the soundstage, he had pre-vis of some of the big action sequences in the movie. So we’re in deep pre-production and Gareth’s vision of the movie is really exciting it’s a true re-boot of Godzilla. And you saw from the Comic-Con footage it is a grounded, realistic version of Godzilla. What would happen if Godzilla came into our world today?

Head inside for a better copy of the image and feel free to know that the film has a Facebook fan page now. Godzilla is in theaters May 16th, 2014. READ MORE

Get These Amazing ‘Silent Hill’ Figures For That Special Horror Geek In Your Life

Toymunkey Studios was at Comic-Con last week to debut their new line of Silent Hill PVC statues that will release this December (read: Christmas gift) and as their $150 price tag would suggest, they each look pretty fantastic. The figures include a trio of nurses as well as the iconic Pyramid Head–in related news, I once had a dream where Pyramid Head replaced Bruce Campbell in one of those Old Spice commercials and he was just sitting on a recliner wearing a suede robe smoking a pipe, not giving a shit. Also, that’s totally untrue. I wish my dreams were that great, but for me they rarely stray from a naked me being chased through a purple forest by a horde of neon garden gnomes with Obama faces. You know, the usual. Oh yeah, Silent Hill statues. They’ll be 12″ tall, making them the perfect replacement for those hideous garden gnomes I see littered about people’s yards. Seriously, let’s get rid of those. Their stupid grins and wee beady eyes never fail to send shivers down my spine.

[San Diego Comic-Con '12] Raw Studios Panel Recap Along With Absolutely Incredible ‘Punisher’ Short!

JTMosh writes in with the following report out of the San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend.

Does anybody have a laptop?” That’s the way Thomas Jane started off his RAW Studios panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. It seems there was some sort of technical difficulty with their initial set-up.

And as he’s known to do, Jane just rolled with it.

After securing a computer from one of the attendees, and getting all that set up, the panel was getting off to a late start. As people were still trickling in, Jane seemed to decide, “To hell with it; let’s just do this.” And the panel started. There was none of the usual formality associated with a Comic-Con panel on display here. There was no barrier between the panelists and the audience. Instead of sitting up on a stage talking into microphones, as is the Comic-Con standard, these panelists stood on the floor talking with their fans. It was an incredibly refreshing thing to see. It felt much less like celebrities talking at a crowd and more like a group of like-minded people talking about the stuff they love.

On hand were the man himself, Tom Jane; legendary comic artist Tim Bradstreet; longtime 2000 A.D., Judge Dredd and Bad Planet Issues 7-8 artist Greg Staples; artist on Bad Planet Issues 1-6 and lead concept artist at High Noon Studios Jim Daily; writer of the upcoming A Magnificent Death from a Shattered Hand Jose Prendes; production designer on Return of the Living Dead and artist on many films including Conan the Barbarian, First Blood, and Pan’s Labyrinth William Stout; and as a surprise for the end of the panel, Hellboy himself, Ron Perlman.

We’re excited to be the first website to share with you a brand new image out of the San Diego Comic-Con for Open Road Films’ Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, the highly anticipated sequel to 2006′s film Silent Hill. The new look puts star Adelaide Clemens in the hot seat. We’ve added the still below alongside the “Nurse Attack” clip if you missed it…

Silent Hill: Revelation 3D will be released wide October 26, 2012 in time for Halloween.

Directed by Michael J. Bassett (Solomon Kane, Deathwatch), original cast members Sean Bean (HBO’s Game Of Thrones, Lord Of The Rings), Deborah Kara Unger (The Game, 88 minutes, The Samaritan) and Radha Mitchell (Man On Fire, The Crazies, upcoming The Frozen Ground) return in Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, starring along with rising stars Adelaide Clemens (X-Men Origins, upcoming The Great Gatsby, No One Lives) and Kit Harington (HBO’s Game Of Thrones) as well as Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix, Disturbia, NBC’s Chuck) and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, The Artist).

[San Diego Comic-Con '12 News Bites] ‘Hellboy 3′ Chatter, The Rock For ‘Lobo’ & “Mockingbird Lane” Cast Photo!

I’m actually a bit surprised this is our first News Bites of the San Diego Comic-Con, considering there’s more news breaks than we can possibly handle (nothing like having our server crash multiple times. Sorry ’bout that!)

Anyways, here’s a few short news breaks beginning with the news confirming Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson‘s potential casting in Warner Bros. Lobo adaptation: “Rumors of me possibly playing LOBO are true. Joel Silver and Brad Peyton working on it now. That could be fun,” revealed The Rock via his official Twitter account. This would be a nice move away from playing Disney character like The Tooth Fairy. Bray Peyton is directing. Lobo is an alien that works as an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from DC Comics. His comics are known to be R-rated and bloody.

Via TVLine the below image displays the cast of NBC’s Mockingbird Lane (Bryan Fuller‘s re-imagining of “The Munsters”) shared with Comic-Con attendees, along with the following recap: “A sizzle reel of footage from the “Mockingbird Lane” pilot, which finished shooting three days before the panel, revealed that the series has the auteur’s stamp all over it. Darkly humorous and visually distinctive, the sneak peek featured a scene of a wolfed-out Eddie terrorizing his Boy Scout friends on a camping trip, clever nods to the original series and Eddie Izzard as Grandpa chomping into a lion. Special effects to be added will also allow Lily’s outfit to form out of spiders and for Grandpa to manifest out of rats.” He adds, “The family pet, Spot, will be part of the show, as will the creation of the “Dragula.”

Lastly, Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro once again talks about Hellboy 3 with EW: “I can say publicly that now we are together in trying [to do Hellboy 3].” Star Ron Perlman adds, “The [first] two movies were really set up to have this unbelievable resolve…Everything that was done in both movies was leading up to this destiny, written in stone, of what Hellboy has been summoned to Earth to do. To not do it, particularly in light of the scope that Guillermo is thinking of for the resolve, would be in my mind a little bit of a shame.

As of now nothing is official, but Del Toro says, “We’re going to make an effort to do it. I hope it happens.READ MORE

More Fatalities: A Second Season Of ‘Mortal Kombat: Legacy’ Greenlit!

While we sit and wonder if Warner Bros. is just taking forever, or if the lawsuit is holding up any progression on the long-gestured remake, writer/director Kevin Tancharoen revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con that a second season of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy webseries is officially on the way.

I can break the silence and tell you guys what it’s going to be about. It’s going to be about the actual Mortal Kombat tournament this time,” says Tancharoen.

Season One of the 9-episode series from Tancharoen (“Mortal Kombat: Rebirth”) expands the mythos of the popular Mortal Kombat video game franchise and currently has garnered millions of hits on YouTube.

“Mortal Kombat: Legacy” takes place before the events of the original game and tells the background stories of several characters from the franchise, culminating in their reasons for participating in the upcoming tenth Mortal Kombat tournament, on which the first game was based. The episodes in the anthology are non-linear with minimal continuity, and each devoted to the story of a specific character or characters.-Wiki

[San Diego Comic-Con '12] Kevin Williamson Speaks On Pilot Presentation of “The Following”

One of our Comic-Con 2012 highlights was the opportunity to chat with the cast and creators of Fox’s upcoming series “The Following”. Even though only the pilot has been filmed so far, they all provided us with some thoughtful insights into the show.

First we spoke with creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson, who has been working on the project in one form or another for over 16 years. While he wants “The Following” to be gripping and leave audiences breathless, it has a love story at the root of it.

THE FBI estimates there are currently over 300 active serial killers in the United States. What would happen if these killers had a way of communicating and connecting with each other? What if they were able to work together and form alliances across the country? What if one brilliant psychotic serial killer was able to bring them all together and activate a following?

[San Diego Comic-Con '12] Guillermo Del Toro Has Yet To See ‘Prometheus Because It’s So Similar To ‘At the Mountains of Madness’

In an interview with Empire, Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro proclaims his string intentions to get the H.P. Lovecraft adaptation of At the Mountains of Madness made, while also dropping a shocking little bit of news.

I think we may still make it. When I’m brave enough to go and see Prometheus, I’ll know,” Del Toro revealed to the mag. “But for now, I don’t know. We are all nothing but human beings. I go to the theatre, I buy my ticket for Prometheus and I go and see something else, because I’m afraid. I’m not a mental entity, I am also emotional, because the ideas are similar, from what I’ve heard and I’ll see it next week, I promise!

It’s kind of shocking to hear del Toro explain that he’s yet to see Prometheus, but for good reason. He should relish in the fact that many think Ridley Scott dropped the ball with his interpretation. Maybe del Toro can deliver something a bit more coherent?

Universal Pictures’ would-be H.P. Lovecraft adaptation “tells the story of geologist William Dyer, a professor from Miskatonic University. He writes to disclose hitherto unknown and closely kept secrets in the hope that he can deter a planned and much publicized scientific expedition to Antarctica. On a previous expedition there, a party of scholars from Miskatonic University, led by Dyer, discovered fantastic and horrific ruins (including strange fossils of unheard-of creatures and carved stones tens of millions of years old) and a dangerous secret of the City of the Old Ones that lay beyond a range of mountains taller than the Himalayas.READ MORE

[San Diego Comic-Con '12] ‘The Possession’ Director Ole Bornedal On Combining His Own Voice With The Ghosthouse Aesthetic

I haven’t seen The Possession yet, but I hear it’s actually really good. A few of my more discerning friends have seen it and reported back with largely positive things to say.

While in San Diego for the Comic-Con I sat down with director Ole Bornedal to talk about horror films (he claims not to be a fan of many of them) and his approach to telling a more personal story amongst the chaos that takes place in the film.

Based on a true story, ‘The Possession’ is the terrifying story of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil. Clyde (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Kyra Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.
