‘Hellgate: London’ Series Being Resurrected With ‘Hellgate: Redemption’

Published

on

It appears that after its rebirth and the subsequent VR entry, we’re once again returning to the Hellgate series. This time with one of the original developers. Bill Roper, who served as producer, writer, and director of Hellgate: London, has announced the development of Hellgate: Redemption at Roper’s new studio, Lunacy Games.

Per GamesBeat, Roper states that Lunacy recently made a deal with Hanbitsoft to develop Redemption after acquiring a license for the Hellgate: London franchise. “It feels like it’s been a long time in secretive hibernation. So I’m really happy to be able to start publicly talking about what we’re doing,” Roper said. “We’re announcing the Hellgate license on the 27th and that’s my birthday. So I can’t think of a better birthday present to go and play in those demon apocalyptic waters again.”

Roper hasn’t revealed too many details about the new game as of yet. However, it will be built using Unreal Engine 5, and will be set in an as-of-yet undisclosed part of the alternate-history, demon-apocalypse world of Hellgate. “I’ve always felt I had unfinished business with the Hellgate IP, which is why our codename for the project is Hellgate: Redemption. We’re keeping core gameplay and lore elements of Hellgate: London in our current design, but our intent is to build an exciting new experience that takes advantage of the numerous advances the industry has seen over the past 17 years since the original game launched.”

Created by former Blizzard Entertainment employees who had a hand in the Diablo series, Hellgate: London is set in a post-apocalyptic London in the year 2038. As a survivor, you must fight against the legions of demons that have infested the city, and rescue humanity.

The Joker Announced as Latest Character Joining the Free-To-Play Fighter ‘Multiversus’ [Trailer]

With MultiVersus returning later this month, WB Games and developer Player First Games appear to have started dropping more incentives for players to return to the game. That involves revealing The Joker as the latest playable character to join the upcoming free-to-play platform fighter, with the legendary Mark Hamill returning to voice the character.

The announcement was accompanied by a new trailer, which appropriately sees Batman (who’s already in MultiVersus) confronting The Joker, who drops a little reference to the version portrayed by Jack Nicholson in 1989’s Batman. No word yet on The Joker’s abilities or moveset just yet.

The Joker joins the aforementioned Batman as well as Harley Quinn in MultiVersus, along with Shaggy and Velma from Scooby-Doo, and Gizmo and Stripe from Gremlins. Again, here’s hoping that the rumour regarding Eleven from Stranger Things, Godzilla and Beetlejuice joining the MultiVersus roster turns out to be true.

MultiVersus will launch on May 28, and will be available as a free download for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series , Xbox One, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, with full cross-play and cross-progression support.
