I don’t care if it’s cheesy, it’s a kids film and it’s meant to be a little over the top. Directed by Ridley Scott (Alien, Prometheus), this fantasy film suffered at the box office upon its release but has since gained a strong cult following.
One of the great aspects of this film is Tim Curry in the role of Darkness, who is basically The Devil. Classy, well spoken, majestic, this is one of the most charming yet rage-filled villains on this list.
The phenomenal makeup used to create this creature, which was incidentally done by The Thing‘s Rob Bottin, is absolutely fantastic and still holds up wonderfully to this day.
It also helps that I’m in love with Tangerine Dream‘s soundtrack.
