The Fly 2 – The Dog
You know what? I really think this movie is pretty damn good. The biggest problem that it had was that it was the sequel to a fantastic film, which meant that it had to live up to a lot of expectations. Much like Halloween 3, this was a film that would be fantastic had it been given another title. Instead, it failed to win the hearts of many viewers.
In this sequel, there are two scenes with a dog that was horribly deformed and disfigured after being teleported. The first is when Martin Brundle sees the dog from an observation platform. His tears mirror our own feelings of mild disgust that is overwhelmed by sadness and pity.
The second scene is when Martin enters the cage and euthanizes the animal. The short bit of attention and gentle petting that Martin gives this dog is so appreciated and we can’t help but weep thinking that all this dog wanted was that little bit of affection, that its life would’ve been made that little bit better with some human decency.
Seeing animals die in any film is always hard for me. This scene sends me over the edge every time.
