The Pink Angels (1972)
The Pink Angels is a very bizarre and strange movie and definitely something I’d love to see get a Blu-ray release. I first became aware of this film while at a friend’s house one day. We were there to watch some movies and he always made sure to have some trailers lined up for us before the features began. The trailer for The Pink Angels (found below) is the one that stuck with me more than anything.
To me the trailer plays very campy. The movie looks like a lot of the biker films you’d see from the 60’s and 70’s but with the twist of the bikers being gay. My expectation when I watched the film is that it would be something really silly and over the top. And for the most part it is. But the ending sort of comes out of left field and takes on an incredibly dark turn. I won’t spoil that for you because I think it needs to be seen because it’s so crazy.
The Pink Angels was directed by Larry G. Brown, written by Margaret McPherson and stars John Alderman, Tom Basham, Robert Bihiller and George T. Marshall.
Synopsis:
They’re not your ordinary bikers, that’s for sure. Two highway patrolmen pull the Angels over and uncover hidden stashes of lipstick, dresses, bras and high heels instead of the expected liquor, drugs and hardware. An unsuspecting hitchhiker picked up by the gang is stunned to realize that he’s the “prize” in a hot dog tossing fight that breaks out among the burly bunch. A band of local hookers are shocked and offended when the biker boys ignore their feminine charms in favor of more masculine companionship. And when these Pink Angels meet up with some for real Hell’s Angels, our boys show the tough guys a trick or two!
