5 “Gilmore Girls” Cast Members With Horror Ties

Edward Herrmann – Richard Gilmore

It’s been about a year and a half since Edward Herrmann passed away but even still it’s incredibly sad. Herrmann was a fantastic actor for decades, staying active up until his death. He played a hugely important role on Gilmore Girls as Richard Gilmore, the patriarch of the Gilmore family. It’ll be interesting to see how they discuss his death on the mini-series but it will undoubtedly be a tear-jerker.

Herrmann’s career stretched back to the early 70’s and while he didn’t do a ton of genre stuff, he made some appearances here and there, the first coming in 1973 with The Day of the Dolphin from legendary director Mike Nichols. He didn’t pop up in a horror-esque film until 1982’s Death Valley. In 1987 he appeared in an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Lost Boys, which is of course the big one. Herrmann’s Max plays a huge role in The Lost Boys and he’s terrific. After The Lost Boys he didn’t do much in the way of horror but he did play a nice role in Bob Balaban’s My Boyfriend’s Back and played Herman Munster in the 1995 made-for-TV movie Here Come the Munsters.

So there you have it. That’s 5 main cast members from Gilmore Girls that have dabbled in the world of horror, some more than others, throughout their respective careers. If I started to dig into the real secondary characters that just pop up every now and then I’m sure we could find more, but this is a pretty solid 5. If I missed anything let me know and if you’re a fan of Gilmore Girls let’s talk about it!
