Every single time I see Cillian Murphy in a minor role (The Dark Knight, Inception) it makes me cry a little on the inside. In my feeble opinion, the star is one of the best around, and is much deserving of major roles. While I sit back and wait for his career to literally explode, Murphy will tackle a new mankind ending virus in The Retreat (he previously starred in Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later). Deadline reports that Murphy begins filming this British thriller in September on location in Wales. Murphy and Thandie Newton (Vanishing on 7th Street ) will play a husband and wife who rent a remote island cottage while trying to repair their marriage. One day they find a bio hazard-suited soldier washed up on the beach, who warns them that everybody on the mainland has been killed by an airborne virus. That’s when the psychological fun-and-games begin. Carl Tibbetts, an editor who’s worked on Alien Vs Predator (oh boy), is the first-time writer/director.
