Even the behemoth known as Disney World only has so much land to work with.
The mega amusement park, which includes five other smaller parks within it, will see a major closing at its Disney’s Hollywood Studios (formerly MGM) location.
According to Pop Wrapped, Disney’s Hollywood Studios Orlando is building out their Star Wars attractions (that started with “Star Tours”), which means that something else has to shut down. The victim is the absolutely fantastic “Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!,” an attraction I’ve been going to since the park opened in 1989. In fact, it was the only show when the doors opened.
Sources tell me the attractions will fill the entire Echo Lake corner area of the park, as well as expanding into other areas of the park. My source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said “the Indiana Jones Stunt show was never intended to last more than 3-5 years, and has been on the chopping block several times in the past. Disney is looking to capitalize on its acquisition of the Star Wars franchise, and given the fact that the stunt show is so dated, and the American Idol franchise is rapidly dying, it made the most sense to use that space for something fresh.”
The “Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular” is basically a live-action stage version of the opening scene from Steven Spielberg’s 1981 Raiders of the Lost Ark. Thank the heavens for YouTube because you can watch an HD version of the show below – forever and ever.
