20 Horror Game Crossovers I Want in ‘Mortal Kombat’, Part 1

Rick Taylor – Splatterhouse

MK_Cross2

If ever there was a series that’s found the childlike glee that comes from separating limbs from bodies to use as tools for bludgeoning against their former owners, it’s Splatterhouse. Unfortunately, that 2010 reboot was probably its last chance at being relevant again. Another game is almost certainly out of the question, so unless Rick and his mask are interested in joining the ever-growing list of video game characters that have been made irrelevant by the passage of time, strategic cameos in popular games like Mortal Kombat are their best bet.

Both of these series get giddy at the sight of gore and relish a good fight to the bloody death. It’s a perfect fit.

Regenerator – Resident Evil 4

I know, “What about Nemesis?” you’re probably wondering right now. He’s undeniably a good fit, but he’s also obvious, so rather than focus on the first characters that come to mind — as great as Nemesis, the Tyrant or the Merchant might be — I decided instead to go with the one that’s caused me the most suffering. And terror. Lots of terror.

It wouldn’t take much to transform the Regenerator into a combatant. Its ability to regenerate and stretch its limbs would make for some interesting maneuvers in a Mortal Kombat game. Imagine Kung Lao cutting off both its legs with a well-executed hat throw, then as he’s confidently walking away, the Regenerator leaps from the ground and eats him, hat and all.

Or, you know, whatever Ed Boone wants him to do.
