Manpig – Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs
As far as sequels go, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs wasn’t as successful as fans of the terrifying original would’ve liked it to be. I could ask a half dozen horror fans for a half dozen things they didn’t like about the game, and I’m sure a majority of the feedback I’d get would be legitimate. It’s not a good sequel, but it is an enjoyable horror game. I think it may be a game that our future selves look back at more fondly than we do now.
It happens! Just compare the way Silent Hill 4 was received when it first released in 2004 to the way people feel about it today.
The most common foe in A Machine for Pigs is the Pigman. He is exactly what his name suggests — part man, part pig, all evil. His nightmarish appearance gives him an intimidation factor, while his gorilla-esque form makes him strong enough to do whatever it is he did to Oswald when he wasn’t able to hide in time.
Slender Man – Too Many Games
When Slender: The Eight Pages blew up in the summer of 2012, many indie developers immediately went to work on taking advantage of its wild success. The game triggered a massive wave of shamelessly identical rip-offs, as well as a handful of games that tried to put their own twists on the winning formula. Slender Man still has a presence in video games nearly three years later, but most indies have since moved on.
It’s a good thing Slender Man doesn’t have a face with which to cry, because his presence in video games is going to endure a painfully slow death from here on out. As we’ve already discussed, one way to stave off the virtual Reaper’s inevitable visit is through a strategic crossover.
Slendy is just as lovable as he ever was, but we’re well passed the days when you could visit essentially any video game news site and be guaranteed to see his (lack of a) face at least once. Add him to a Mortal Kombat roster so he can experiment with his shadow powers on Scorpion or Raiden for a bit and gamers will start talking about him again, even if it’s just to talk about his lame fatalities, which I assume will have him staring his opponents to death.
