Secret Rape Revenge
The Horror Queers eight week camp marathon continues! After Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday, Cursed, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, and LiLo’s tumultuous wannabe giallo I Know What You Did Last Summer Who Killed Me last week, it’s time to turn our attention to a brand new camp/cult classic, The Perfection!
After Trace talked up the film for months following last year’s Fantastic Fest, my expectations were sky high when the film premiered on Netflix back in May. When we tackled the film as a Patreon exclusive, it turns out that there was a ton to unpack in the tale of two cello protégés – Charlotte (Allison Williams) and Lizzie (Logan Browning) – who become ensnared in a revenge plot involving their head master, Anton (Steven Weber).
This film has nearly as many jaw-dropping twists as it does gonzo turns, and the episode quickly turns into a love letter to both its insane charms, as well as the oft-forgotten, terribly green-screened, short-lived TV show Ringer, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. It seems as though The CW’s craziest series had to die in order to bring screenwriters Eric C. Charmelo, Nicole Snyder and director Richard Shepard together in order to create…perfection.

Episode 42 – The Perfection (2019)
In order to accommodate our hectic TIFF & Fantastic Fest schedules, enjoy this Patreon-exclusive discussion on one of our favorite films of the year: Netflix’s The Perfection!
Prepare yourself for a spoiler-filled discussion on an extremely queer, extremely unpredictable and extremely awesome film.
There aren’t really any words to describe it, so imagine the premise of Black Swan, Single White Female, Outbreak, Misery, Oldboy and The Handmaiden are all thrown in a blender. Then add the narrative surprises of films like Martyrs and Funny Games where you have no idea what kind of film you’re watching. That’s The Perfection!
In short, it’s a perfect fit for our camp marathon!
Let us know what you thought of the film, which is bound to be on many horror fans’ top 10 lists by the year’s end.
Cross out The Perfection!
Coming up Wednesday: We dip back into Wes Craven territory for a discussion of the camp appeal of Mommy and Daddy in 1991’s The People Under The Stairs!
