Story-Focused Tabletop Slasher RPG ‘Death Sentence’ Available Now

Published

on

Tabletop fans looking for a relatively quick game that’s light on rules but heavy on the gore have an answer with Death Sentence. Created by Guilherme Sassaki, Leo Andrade and Luana Bibiano, Death Sentence is available now via itch.io, and is described as a narrative-focused horror RPG for one-shot sessions in the vein of the best slasher movies, integrating roleplay and rollplay to realize (and/or subvert!) the genre’s main tropes.

A session of Death Sentence runs around 2-5 hours, following a 3-act structure. The game is designed for 1 Narrator and 3 to 5 players, with the Narrator in charge of the world, nonplayer characters (NPCs), and the Threat. Each player controls 2 to 3 Player Characters, whose death is almost certain. However, given that you have a surplus of them allows you to take risks for bolder, more interesting moves.

The Threat can be anything you want, as long as it’s deadly and hard to kill. Anything from owl-people, fungal zombies, crazed killers, and so on. The main focus is trying to figure out how to escape or destroy the Threat.

Death Sentence‘s action resolution system is simple: Players roll pools of d6s that are assembled based on one character’s Action Attributes, Traits, Relationships, and current
circumstances. “Circumstances” include the environment, their Injury status, and any ideas they can come up with for their character. Players can spend Drama Points to get more dice or reroll failures. PCs have a Panic score that increases in response to traumatizing events. Rolling badly on this can spell disaster, but also keeps the tension high as a result.

As mentioned, the base game is available now via a pdf (with a booklet option for print) for $7.50 USD. However, the game currently has a launch discount from now until November 1 as an added incentive for those hoping to run a Halloween one-shot session

As a further treat (and for those thinking about snagging a copy of the game) Leo Andrade will run a session of Death Sentence on Stillfleet’s Twitch channel on October 28th at 2 PM EST.

‘John Wick’ Receiving Pinball Game From Stern Pinball [Video]

Published

on

John Wick has infiltrated the world of video games and television, and now it’s time to conquer the pinball world. Lionsgate has teamed with Stern Pinball (the same folks behind the JAWS pinball machine) to release a new series of pinball machines inspired by the series of films.

Available now at retailers in Pro ($6,999 USD), Premium ($9,699 USD), and Limited Edition models ($12,999 USD, limited to 1,000 games globally), players will step into the role of the world’s greatest assassin as he fights to escape his past. As the titular character, players can engage in high-speed car chases and fast-action drifting across the playfield, which incorporates models and artwork inspired by iconic locations from the franchise, including the New York Continental Hotel and the Red Circle Club.

Players can also open John Wick’s weapons crate to reveal a hidden shot target path to retrieve an array of weapons. You must use the sculpted Blood Oath Marker carefully – or risk the consequences. You’ll also need to survive other assassins, complete jobs for the legendary Factions of the High Table, and eventually take on John Wick’s “Special Assignment.”

To raise the stakes, John Wick pinball will use Stern’s all-new dynamic AI combat system to control the enemy lights on the playfield. As such, enemy icons are responsive to player behavior and will illuminate dynamically around the playfield to challenge the player. The enemies move tactically with this dynamic software to counter player objectives, creating a unique challenge in each game session.

Accompanying the high-quality film and audio assets woven into the gameplay, John Wick pinball games will include custom narration by Winston (played by Ian McShane) and an original score composed by Charlie Benante of Anthrax and Pantera. As an added touch, pieces of John Wick’s iconic suits used in connection with the production of the films will be included as a “franchise artifact” in the Limited Edition models. Completing the design of the machines will be original neo-noir style paintings illustrated by acclaimed artist, Randy Martinez.

On the film front, the first spin-off film in the John Wick Cinematic Universe, the Len Wiseman-directed Ballerina, will release in theatres June 6, 2025.
