5 Excruciating Ways to Die in Horror Games! (NSFW)

Every one of us will die. You, me, even our music editor, Jonny B — once thought to be immortal — will eventually meet move on to wherever it is we go when we perish. In fact, we’re all dying right now. Right this very minute, every one of us is hurtling through space at about 70k mph, dodging asteroids, comets, other planets and the Covenant.

This is a fun way to start an article, huh? It sure is, and I’m not even done yet. Any number of things can kill us, and as video games have taught me over the years, many of these deaths are horrific enough that I wouldn’t wish them upon my worst enemy (you know who you are).

This is why I’ve decided to come up with a list of five of what I consider to be some of the most painful deaths I’ve seen in horror games.

Come, darling. Let’s have some fun.

    Meh…

    Kind of a weak list…

lol. i love your morbid way of thinking. I think the worst way to go is getting bear-hugged by that twitching monster with all the sharp shit sticking out of his flesh from RE4

    • The Iron Maiden! Nice pick.

      • joelwaters

also getting my mind/body slowly torn apart by whatever’s chasing you in SH Downpour–what the hell is that anyway?

    • Taboo

Heh, that’s the first monster that i thought of lol

  • joelwaters

getting bludgeoned by one the Hammer bros. j/k

  • Fantasma George

This might lack in excruciating but it makes up for humiliating: on the red light district stage in Shadows of the Damned getting launched by a giant demon cyclops to the opposite end of a kinky phone sex banner and leaving your face posing dead in a comical uncompromising position.

I always thought Raiden’s fatality in Mortal Kombat would be a pretty nasty way to go – getting shocked with such a large current your flesh begins to smoke, causing either your head or entire body to explode.

    • Martydubbs

you gonna get the new mortal kombat when it comes out

  • Evin R

God the Groom was an excellent character

  • ThunderDragoon

Yes, the Groom! So freakin’ scary.

  • Andy

Where is the chainsaw death from RE4?

    • Honestly, my reasoning behind not including it (because it is a particularly awful way to die) is because I just featured that series in several ‘Top 5’ lists during our Resident Evil Week last month, so I wanted to give some other equally worthy games a mention.

  • Brad Miller

What about the drill scene in Silent Hill Homecoming?

    • Funny you should mention that; I had that scene as #2 on the list before I remembered there were Saw games. SO brutal.

  • Tyler Craft

and what about ‘the last of us’ come on guys….

  • DarylRevik

What about the cerebral bore in Turok 2? I mean it’s not your character dying, but still a hell of a way to go out

    • I completely forgot about that one. Great pick.

  • Whistblower with the groom guy was one of the most disturbing things I ever played!

I was so glad when ***SPOILERS ***** met his maker. His demise should have been so much worse!
