[Interview] Gretchen Lodge On Research, The “Kissing Scene”, And What She Was Afraid To Shoot In ‘Lovely Molly’

After months of taking Mr. Disgusting’s word for it (review here), I finally saw Image Entertainment’s Lovely Molly. And I loved it. It’s super unsettling, well-directed, well-paced, and has some truly striking imagery.

It’s also a role that requires a lot of its lead actress, Gretchen Lodge. I felt bad for her just watching it, but she more than rose to the occasion. Earlier this week I sat down with Lodge to discuss her role as Molly, what she thought of the script, and the elements of the story she might have been the most trepidatious about filming.

Lovely Molly opens in limited theaters today, May 18th. If you live in Los Angeles, Lodge will doing a Q&A following the 7:40PM show at the Chinese 6 at Hollywood and Highland this evening. She’ll also be conducting a poster signing at Dark Delicacies on Tuesday night.

Directed by Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project), “When newlywed Molly Reynolds returns to her long-abandoned family home, frightful reminders of a nightmarish childhood begin seeping into her new life. She soon begins an inexorable descent into evil that blurs the lines between psychosis and possession.

Lovely Molly (limited)

Lovely Molly, which explores the thin line between demonic possession and psychosis, starts off as a simple horror film about things that go bump in the night but slowly turns into a thriller about the evil power that exists inside one troubled young woman.

The film centers on a young newlywed couple that falls prey to a demonic spirit. Lewis will play the groom, and Holden will play the bride’s sister and maid of honor.

Official: When newlywed Molly Reynolds returns to her long-abandoned family home, frightful reminders of a nightmarish childhood begin seeping into her new life. She soon begins an inexorable descent into evil that blurs the lines between psychosis and possession.

Image Entertainment has released part two of their “Demonic Forces” faux-doc for Lovely Molly. If you didn’t get a chance to check out the first one, you can do so here here. I normally don’t like these viral docs but the ones for Lovely Molly have been strangely compelling. I can’t wait to see this movie.

New ‘Lovely Molly’ Clip Hasn’t Read Up On Acceptable Workplace Behavior

Lovely MOLLY banner New Lovely Molly Clip Hasnt Read Up On Acceptable Workplace Behavior

Image Entertainment is unloading new material from Lovely Molly pretty much every day it seems. Do I have an issue with it? Nope! I hear the film is fantastic (from multiple reliable sources) and I want to do everything I can to make sure that people turn out in droves to see it on May 18th (or as many droves as a limited release will allow). Everyone wants original horror right? It still has to be proven because the remakes are unfortunately still making more money.

This new clip finds Molly in a frightening place in today’s economy – on the verge of being laid of. If only she had laid off the wall.

Image Ent. Creepily Sends ‘Lovely Molly’ Baphomet Tablet To My House. I’m Hanging It Up. I’ll Regret It, I’m Sure.

Owning a massive website has its perks, but flaunting them to our readers doesn’t resonate well with me (humble bragging even pisses me off). But sometimes we do receive some pretty effin’ cool goodies that’s more than a thoughtless squeeze heart or a pen with the film’s logo on it. Occasionally, I stress occasionally, there’s a bit of thought put into the PR. Image Entertainment has gone to great lengths in promoting Lovely Molly, their forthcoming supernatural freak-fest opening in theaters May 18 (you guys better go, or else I’ll use the tablet on you!).

Anyways, this afternoon we received a pretty cool package that came rocking several photos that are extremely relevant to the plot of the Eduardo Sanchez-directed pic, along with an extremely unnerving (if you’re a pussy) Devilish stone plaque rocking horses and Satanic symbolism. Do I dare hang this in my apartment. Uhm, yes.

You can check out the image gallery inside. Here’s my review for the flick that came out of the TIFF last September. Sanchez is the co-director of The Blair Witch Project and the forthcoming Bigfoot horror Exists. READ MORE

‘Blair Witch’ Director Proves Bigfoot ‘Exists’ With Cast Of Characters

While we patiently await the release of Image Entertainment’s Lovely Molly, director Eduardo Sanchez begins the hunt for his next genre project.

The Bigfoot found-footage film Exists has locked its cast ahead of its Monday start of production for Haxan Films and Amber Entertainment.

Variety reports that thesps Dora Madison Burge, Samuel Davis, Roger Edwards, Chris Osborn and Denise Williamson go to work next week at Spiderwood Studios in Elgin, Tex. with Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project) directing from a Jamie Nash script.

Brian Steele (Hellboy) has been set since last year to play the monster.

‘Exists’ is a horror-thriller that chronicles a group of friends who set out into a remote Texas woods for a weekend of fun and are stalked and hunted by Bigfoot.

It’s the second film produced under a multi-picture collaboration between Haxan and Amber following Lovely Molly, which bowed at the Midnight Madness lineup at Toronto and SXSW and is being released by Image Entertainment on May 18. Producers are Robin Cowie, Jane Fleming, Andy Jenkins and Mark Ordesky with Gregg Hale and Reed Frerichs exec producing. READ MORE

Blair Witch director Eduardo Sanchez’s extremely well regarded comeback, Lovely Molly (review), premiered to an enthusiastic audience this past week at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin. Having world premiered at the TIFF last September, Image Entertainment will release the haunting film in limited theaters on May 18th.

‘Blair Witch Director’ Hoping to Prove Bigfoot ‘Exists’

Of the two Blair Witch Project directors, I’d like to say Eduardo Sanchez has made the better films in his career. One of the most underrated direct-to-disc titles is his humans abduct an alien horror Altered.

Next up for Sanchez is a hunt for Bigfoot in Exists, which begins lensing this October from Haxan Films and Amber Entertainment, reports Variety.

Exists, written by Jamie Nash and Sanchez, “follows a group of twentysomethings who take a trip to a cabin deep in the wooded wilderness and are methodically hunted by a Bigfoot-like beast.

The film is the first in a trilogy exploring and reinventing the Bigfoot myth,” Sanchez said. “We all remember the terror of watching such classics as ‘The Legend of Boggy Creek,’ and I look forward to making Bigfoot scary again.

Weta Workshop and Spectral Motion are collaborating with the production team on the design and build of the monster, to be portrayed by Brian Steele (Hellboy, Predators, Underworld). The film will be shot outside Austin, Texas, at Spiderwood Studios, and casting will begin in August with a focus on unknown actors.

Haxan and Amber are in post on The Possession, also directed by Sanchez, as the first film in the multipic pact formed by Haxan and Amber last year.Indie horror sensation The Blair Witch Project took in more than $140 million domestically in 1999 thanks to a variety of viral marketing campaigns. The film grossed $250 million worldwide.
