[Random Cool] A Super Wicked Limited Edition ‘Insidious’ Poster!

I’d like to think my parents raised me well as everything that I do in my life I try and do it the “right way.” Ethics and values are the most important traits to me, which is why I absolutely despise Kickstarter. Not for what it attempts to do, but for monsters it creates. You can learn a lot about a person just by reading through a Kickstarter project, which is why I opt to ignore 99.9% of all Kickstarter e-mails submitted. From a feature standpoint, I’ll gladly support a completed film, but I just can’t post all 72 million projects that hit my inbox. With that said, occasionally a project lands on my doorstep that is bursting with promise and structured “the right way”.

Such the case with Creative Director Turrel David of DzXtinKt Originals, a Baltimore startup company that’s hoping to deliver limited edition prints of incredible posters for Drive and James Wan’s Insidious. Much like what FarSight Studios did to bring fans the “Twilight Zone” pinball machine, DzXtinKt is actually licensing the rights to these films from FilmDistrict (as opposed to stealing the art like all of those horror t-shirt companies do). What this means is, they have to pay FilmDistrict for the right to reproduce art based on said films. It’s expensive. So for them to do things the “right” way they had to get a Kickstarter going. What’s great is that you basically pre-order the product. If they hit their number, they make them and you score a limited edition one-sheet. If they don’t, no harm no foul (unlike IndiGoGo which pays out no matter what).

We’ve added Jordan Debney’s Insidious artwork below. If you want one, Click over to Kickstarter to score it. READ MORE

‘Dark Skies’ Parts The Clouds With New Synopsis

Last month Dimension Films confirmed our scoop that they have acquired U.S. distribution rights to the supernatural thriller Dark Skies, written and directed by Scott Stewart (Priest, Legion). Jason Blum (Insidious) will produce through Blumhouse Productions alongside Alliance Films, which will fully finance the picture. Alliance Films will distribute in Canada, in the UK (via Momentum Pictures), and in Spain.

We already knew that the horror flick focuses on the parent’s 6-year-old boy who’s apparently been “marked” by an alien (living among us) for future abduction. Now the official synopsis ties into that description, “Dark Skies is a psychological thriller about a suburban couple whose lives become a nightmare when a terrifying alien presence enters their home each night to prey upon their children. Increasingly isolated from skeptical friends and neighbors, the couple is forced to take matters into their own hands to save their family.

Dark Skies stars Keri Russell (Mission: Impossible III, Grimm Love) and Daniel Barrett as the aforementioned suburban couple. The film is scheduled to go into production this summer.

Here Is What It Would Be Like To Serve On The Devil’s Chain Gang

bloodyjugband2012 Here Is What It Would Be Like To Serve On The Devils Chain Gang
In an homage to classic silent films, The Bloody Jug Band has released a video for Chained To The Bottom. Produced by Bloody-Disgusting’s own Tim Anderson, directed by Steven Shea (Hoodoo for Voodoo, Doomsday County, 2:22) and starring J. LaRose (Saw III, Repo: The Genetic Opera, Insidious), the video shows the tough life of those who are sentenced to eternity on the Devil’s chain gang.
This isn’t music that I normally fall back to but damn, this is a great song! I’ve already listened to it about four times and I plan on doubling that by the end of the day. Oh, funny fact: the one-string bass player could very well be a doppelgänger for Aural Pleasure co-host Bill Frye. Check out the video below.

Paranormal Specialists Return in ‘Insidious 2′

Paranormal Specialists Return in Insidious 2

One of the more colorful and interesting characters in James Wan’s Poltergeist-esque Insidious was that of Specs and Tucker, played by Leigh Whannell and Angus Sampson respectively. In sort an obvious direction, Whannell, who is also the franchise writer, revealed that the two goofs with a ghost hunting viewfinder will be back in Insidious 2.

I can say that yes, my character will be seen in Insidious 2,” said Whannell to Dread. “It may probably bum a lot of people out, though, to hear this news. It’s part of the reason I don’t even read the internet message boards anymore; there was this hatred that spewed out from fans saying ‘I hated those guys! They sucked! They ruined the movie!’ so there will probably be a lot of people out there who will be disappointed to hear that the Specs and Tucker characters will be coming back. (laughs)

We talked to Whannell exclusively the day after the sequel was announced. Here’s what he had to say.

In the 2011 hit, Josh (Patrick Wilson) and Renai (Rose Byrne) make the terrifying discovery that the body of their comatose boy has become a magnet for malevolent entities, while his consciousness lies trapped in the dark and insidious realm known as The Further. READ MORE

Whannell And Wan Back For ‘Insidious 2′! Any Guesses As To What Happens?

Whannell And Wan Back For Insidious 2! Any Guesses As To What Happens?

It should come as no surprise that a sequel to Insidious is going forward. After all, the first one had an amazing return on investment.

But what hasn’t been confirmed (until now) is the involvement of Leigh Whannell and James Wan. There had even been talk of the film moving forward without them. When I spoke to Wan in October he had this to say, “The film is about to push 100 million worldwide right now, so I wish I could give you a creative response but when a film like this makes so much money the powers that be usually like to see a sequel. We would only do it if we could come up with something really cool and really unique. That’s why I never did and of the ‘Saw’ sequels because I didn’t want to repeat myself. But if there’s a cool idea, we’ll do it.

Well he must have found a cool idea! Because it looks like both Whannell and Wan are in. “A sequel to the horror hit Insidious is in the works, with Leigh Whannell returning to write the script and James Wan in talks to once again direct. Jason Blum will produce through Blumhouse Productions and Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Oren Peli and Steven Schneider will be exec producers.

Insidious was the most fun project I’ve ever worked on,” Whannell said in a statement. “From start to finish it was an absolute joy—from the writing of the screenplay, all the way to the first screening of the film at the Toronto film festival. I believe that James Wan and I achieved what we set out to do—create a horror film for horror fans…Both of us feel that we can mine more terror from the world we created and know that if we assemble every member of the original team, we will have an amazing continuation of the story for fans of the first film. Thank you so much to every fan—you are the reason why we do what we do. See you in The Further.

Wan and Whannell are keeping the plot of the sequel under wraps. What do you guys hope for in the sequel? READ MORE

Lili Taylor And Ron Livingtson Apparate On Wan’s ‘The Conjuring’, Film Could Get A Title Change

LiliTaylorLand12412 Lili Taylor And Ron Livingtson Apparate On Wans The Conjuring, Film Could Get A Title Change

Lili Taylor and Ron Livingston have signed on to the new James Wan (Insidious) film for New Line, The Conjuring. They join previously announced Patrick Wilson (Young Adult, Watchmen and Insidious) and Vera Farmiga (The Departed, Orphan).

Per The Hollywood Reporter, “Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor, both actors who cut their teeth in the indie scene, are in negotiations to join Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in New Line’s supernatural thriller formerly known as ‘The Conjuring’. Now under the working title of the Untitled Warren Files Project, the script, written by Chad and Carey Hayes, centers on a a husband and wife team (Wilson, Farmiga) of demonologists and psychic investigators who enter the most horrifying case of their career, spirits in a Rhode Island farmhouse. Livingston and Taylor will play a couple who move with their kids to the farmhouse and begin to be haunted.

Untitled Warren Files Project? Sounds like this whole thing will be getting a new name.

The project is inspired by the true-life story of the Perron family, who claimed they “lived among the dead” in the 1970s as spirits both friendly and sinister inhabited their Rhode Island farmhouse.

The film, “inspired by the supernatural events that happened in the Rhode Island home of the Perron family,” would have the director returning to the realm of domestic haunts. Originally on Summit’s radar, New Line stepped in and bought the pitch when talks fell through. READ MORE

Sony Pictures Planning ‘Insidious’ Sequel

 Sony Pictures Planning Insidious Sequel

We’ve been nudging everyone involved in FilmDistrict’s smash hit Insidious about a sequel since the movie kicked the boxoffice’s ass back in April. Even though everyone involved appears a bit hesitant to acknowledge sequel potential, Sony Pictures – who scored worldwide rights out of the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2010 – is planning ahead.

According to Fusible, Sony has nabbed the following domain names: Insidious2movie.com, Insidious2.net and Insidious2-movie.net.

A few months back STYD had talked with producer Jason Blum who explained: “There’s no plan, no release date, nothing like that. I think James feels the same as Oren [Peli]. Oren was very skeptical about doing a sequel to Paranormal Activity until Michael [Perry] pitched an idea and it made sense. If Leigh comes up with a story that’s inventive and you feel like there’s a story to tell – as opposed to ‘let’s make another movie and make money’ – and he comes up with something James feels is worth making we would do it. And if Leigh doesn’t, we won’t.

I wonder if Sony can move ahead on the project without their involvement? They did make both direct-to-video titles Hostel 3 and Quarantine 2.

In the first, Josh (Patrick Wilson) and Renai (Rose Byrne) make the terrifying discovery that the body of their comatose boy has become a magnet for malevolent entities, while his consciousness lies trapped in the dark and insidious realm known as The Further. READ MORE

Blu-ray Review: ‘Insidious’

Insidious seems like the natural next step for James Wan and Leigh Whannell. Saw was an interesting concept horribly executed (it took them seven films to “explain” stuff and even then, many people were left unsatisfied), Dead Silence made great use of its Hammer-like atmosphere and creepy subject matter but was marred by bad acting and plot holes, and Death Sentence was a pretty standard revenge thriller that showed the duo could get good performances out of their actors. Insidious is the duo’s most accomplished work to date – showing improvement in several of the aforementioned areas – and a blast to watch with your speakers turned all the way up, even if it loses much of its steam in the third act.
