[Video] Rob Corddry’s ‘Warm Bodies’ Zombie Acting Tips

With Warm Bodies in theaters February 1, director Jonathan Levine jumps behind the camera for a digital short with stars Rob Corddry, Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, Dave Franco & Analeigh Tipton.

The short features Rob Corddry discussing the art of method acting for his role as a zombie.

A funny new twist on a classic love story, Wam Bodies is a poignant tale about the power of human connection. After a zombie epidemic, R (a highly unusual zombie) encounters Julie (a human survivor), and rescues her from a zombie attack. Julie sees that R is different from the other zombies, and as the two form a special relationship in their struggle for survival, R becomes increasingly more human — setting off an exciting, romantic, and often comical chain of events that begins to transform the other zombies and maybe even the whole lifeless world.READ MORE

‘Warm Bodies’ Goes The Propaganda Route With New Poster!

Summit Entertainment has just released a new poster for All the Boys Love Mandy Lane and 50/50 director Jonathan Levine’s Warm Bodies. I really like the unique tone to all the materials we’ve seen thus far (check out Part One of my Set Visit here) and this one sheet is no exception. Its use of propaganda iconography is nicely in step with the theme of the film.

[TV] French Zombie Series Gets English Language Reboot As “They Came Back”

Distributor FremantleMedia Enterprises has acquired rights to adapt French zombie series “Les Revenants” for the global market, with the working title of “They Came Back,” reports Variety.

The English-language version will be produced by Brit screenwriter Paul Abbott, whose credits include “State of Play” and “Shameless,” and his shingle AbbottVision.

“Les Revenants” focuses on a group of men and women returning to their homes in an Alpine village. What they do not yet know is that they have all been dead for several years, and no one is expecting them back.

Originally developed as a film, “Les Revenants” was adapted for TV by producers Haut et Court for pay TV company Canal Plus.

The series bowed last fall when, according to FME, it averaged 1.4 million viewers across eight 60-minute episodes. READ MORE

[TV] Was “The Walking Dead” Showrunner Actually Fired?

It’s no secret that AMC has fired two showrunners in less than 18 months from “The Walking Dead,” they’re biggest hit that also one of the most successful franchises on television. The December 21 departure of Glen Mazzara sent shock waves through the undead fan base already frustrated with the loss of co-creator Frank Darabont in July 2011.

The Hollywood Reporter is attempting to get to the bottom of the “mutual” split based on creative differences, as it was originally cited, and is reporting that Mazzara was straight-up fired.

Says the site: “One source says Mazzara’s shortcomings in running the series during the most recent third season became “abundantly clear … especially for the second half of the season.” This source says production was shut down “several times” because of a lack of material.

Mazzara declined comment but will participate in a January 11 AFI awards luncheon that will honor “Walking Dead” as one of 2012′s top shows. Maybe he’ll go on record by this weekend?

The midseason finale Dec. 2 lured 10.5 million total viewers and 6.9 million in the key adults 18-to-49 demo, crushing nearly all broadcast network shows.

[Special Feature] Becoming A Zombie On The Set Of ‘Warm Bodies’… PART TWO!

In theaters February 1 from Summit Entertainment is Warm Bodies, a new kind of zombie film from All the Boys Love Mandy Lane and 50/50 director Jonathan Levine.

Starring Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, Rob Corddry, John Malkovich and Analeigh Tipton, “The story centers on an existentially tormented zombie who begins an unlikely friendship with the girlfriend of one of his victims and starts a chain reaction that will transform him and his fellow zombies.

Back in October of 2011 I visited the set in Montreal and really dug what I saw. I’ve been a fan of Levine’s work for some time, but have to admit that I was iffy on this particular concept. But between reading the book and seeing what the cast and crew were up to, I’m very optimistic that this movie will be a lot of fun. Plus, I got to be a zombie (along with several other journalists)!

On Friday I shared Part One of my set report – which you should really read first. After that, head inside now for Part Two! READ MORE

‘Black Ops II’ Revolution DLC Brings Us One Step Closer To Getting A Standalone ‘Call Of Duty’ Zombie Game

Seriously, Treyarch, let’s drop this charade. You know it, and I know it — you need to develop a standalone zombie game. Activision recently unveiled some details on the next expansion for Call of Duty: Black Ops II, dubbed Revolution. Unlike the DLC for the previous games in the series, Revolution brings with it a brand zombie spanking new game mode called Turned. In it, players will finally be given the opportunity to play as the undead, who must hunt the lone human. The zombie that takes the poor sap down becomes human and has to defend against the coming hordes. Looks like good fun.

The DLC also adds a bunch of maps, including one called Die Rise, which takes place inside a damaged skyscraper. It’ll have a focus on verticality, so watch your footing when you’re high up. Check out a video preview of the upcoming DLC, after the jump.

[TV] AMC Called “Small-Minded” In Wake Of Shocking “Walking Dead” News

This morning we dropped the bomb that, even with the renewal of a fourth season, AMC had parted ways with The Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara.

The release was issued jointly, citing creative differences – you know, where the artist gives up in attempting to deal with the powerful suits. I’ve heard through the grapevine that an alleged huge issue that has lingered with the series is that AMC is always trying to cut budget, even though it’s one of the biggest shows on cable. I’ve also heard that, because AMC has no partners (with “Mad Men” they are partnered with Lionsgate TV), there’s nobody to tell them “no.”

Anyways, some AMC alum have been vocal, with “Sons Of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter, pictured below, taking to Twitter on Friday calling the network executives “small-minded, bottom-line thinkers who have no appreciation or gratitude for the effort of its creative personnel.” Caught by Deadline, he also warned that without Mazzara at the helm the “future is dim” for “The Walking Dead”. [TV] “The Walking Dead” Renewed For Fourth Season As Problems Persist…

In the most perplexing of breaking stories, AMC has announced the renewal of The Walking Dead for a fourth season but has tied it to the news that Glen Mazzara is stepping down as showrunner. That’s two down in three seasons…

AMC jointly announces with Glen Mazzara today that for future seasons, the two parties have mutually decided to part ways. Glen guided the series creatively for seasons 2 and 3. “AMC is grateful for his hard work. We are both proud of our shared success,” explains the release.

Both parties acknowledge that there is a difference of opinion about where the show should go moving forward, and conclude that it is best to part ways. This decision is amicable and Glen will remain on for post-production on season 3B as showrunner and executive producer.

I’ve never seen a show that’s so incredibly successful, and so popular, yet has such obvious behind-the-scenes drama. You could almost go as far as to say the problems in making the hit series is more interesting than the show itself…

In May and June of 2011 we reported tension between showrunner Frank Darabont and AMC. This transpired to Darabont stepping down in July. By that same night AMC announced that Mazzara would run the series. We celebrated.

Since then, the adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s Image Comic series has thrived, but it’s been more about putting bandages on the problems than progressing the series. Some good fixes include the criss-crossing between the Rick Grimes camp and The Governor’s military operation, which has made the first half of season 3 move at a much quicker pace. And as I’ve stated multiple times, killing off annoying characters and finally giving Carl some balls has catapulted the drama to a new level. Still, as good as Season 3 has been, it should be even better. This is AMC, the cabler responsible for “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad” – I expect award-winning television! READ MORE

Review: ‘Revival Volume 1: You’re Among Friends’

The opening pages of Revival, by writer Tim Seeley and artist Mike Norton, are some of the creepiest in comics and they serve as a powerful beginning for the series. The first volume collects issues one through six and Seeley’s story is so masterfully paced that you’ll have to talk yourself out of reading it all in one sitting. Or do. This tale of the risen dead and the living who have to deal with them in a small Wisconsin town is just that good. READ MORE

[TV] “The Walking Dead” Fan Takes Show Way Too Seriously, Shoots Girlfriend.

A Williston Park man who police said shot his girlfriend in the back with a rifle Monday after a heated argument over the television show “The Walking Dead” told authorities he was annoyed that she came to his apartment to smooth things over, reports Newsday.

In a statement to police, Jared M. Gurman, 26, said he told his girlfriend, Jessica Gelderman, 27, also of Williston Park, to leave. “Jess walked into the room and I fired the gun once and hit her,” Gurman said. “She said, ‘Oh my God. What did you do?’

A single round from a .22-caliber semiautomatic rifle pierced Gelderman’s lung and diaphragm, and shattered her ribs, said Nassau Det. Lt. Raymond Cote, commander of the Third Squad.

Police said Gurman drove his girlfriend to Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, where he was arrested. As of late Tuesday, police said, Gelderman was in stable condition with the bullet still in her body. READ MORE

Latin America Has Right To Own Zombies In ‘Summer Hit’!

Uruguay’s Pablo Stoll, a darling of the art-pic crowd since 2001′s Rotterdam Tiger-winning 25 Watts, is prepping a zombie movie, The Summer Hit, Variety reports. The move will shock some Stoll loyalists, which is exactly what he wants.

Set at a Uruguay beach resort, the film turns on Santi, who meets the girl of his dreams. But a teen romantic comedy morphs into a thriller, then zombie pic,” Stoll said at Ventana Sur.

For decades, beyond local comedies, Latin America has largely turned out small social-issue art-house pics, lamenting its suffering. It’s what the world’s come to expect, says the site. But a new generation of Latin American filmmakers is questioning this approach. If one trend was evident this weekend among a wash of projects brought to Ventana Sur by hundreds of producers from Latin America and beyond, it’s a surge in genre.

Stoll is completing a first draft. He will then work with Gonzalo Delgado.

Summer Hit is set up at Temperamento Films, Stoll’s new production shingle after the dissolution of Control Z, and Florencia Larrea’s Kine-Imagenes in Chile.

The teen cast will be multinational, given that Brazilians, Argentineans and Chileans also summer in Uruguay.

Our brochure says Latin America has the right to see its own zombies,” Stoll said.
