Earlier this year, Pacific Rim Uprising director Steven S. DeKnight had noted on Twitter that he was interested in adapting the God of War video game franchise into a feature film, and he brought up pro wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista as his Kratos of choice. Speaking with ComicBook.com today, DeKnight elaborated on that dream project.
As it turns out, DeKnight has actually had conversations with Sony about it!
“I’ve always been a fan of God of War. I think the latest game was just so beautiful and phenomenal. I would love to tackle a God of War movie or I would love to see somebody put that up on the big screen,” DeKnight told the site. “Somebody asked me, ‘Well, who would you have to have Kratos?’ And immediately for me: Dave Batista would be the man. I think he can do anything.”
He continued, “I had some early conversations with the good people at Sony PlayStation about it and my biggest thing is, look, you gotta approach it like a book. Approach it like adapting Jaws. For people who’ve read Jaws, the movie is very different but they’re both fantastic. So you have to be able to take the source material and make it work as a movie. Which means a lot of times you’ve got to change things, which is very dicey obviously because you don’t want alienate video game fans, but you have to make a film that works within the context of a movie by itself. Very difficult. I would love to tackle it.”
DeKnight also touched upon the fact that a God of War adaptation would simply have to be rated R, noting “It’s funny because when I sat down with the Sony PlayStation people, one of the first things we both said is R-rated because I always use the original Conan the Barbarian as my touchstone, that it needs to be R-rated. I don’t think there’s a way to tell that story and make it PG, nor should it be.”
Currently, we must note, nothing is actually in the works on this front.

Bloober Team’s ‘Cronos: Lazarus’ Leaked Prior to Official Reveal
Bloober Team appears to have something in the works related to Cronos: The New Dawn. At least, that would appear to be the case, thanks to an accidental reveal ahead of this weekend’s IGN Live event as part of Summer Game Fest.
In the list of title reveals during the event, something referred to as “Cronos: Lazarus” appeared in the list, but was quickly scrubbed. However, not before the internet picked up on it. Adding more fuel to the reveal were two screenshots posted to X by insider Intercelluar, which appear to show the official art. It’s not clear yet, but this is more than likely a new DLC for Cronos: The New Dawn, given that Bloober Team is already busy with multiple other titles, including the Silent Hill remake, and the recently-announced Layers of Fear 3.
If you haven’t checked out Cronos: The New Dawn (and you never read Aaron’s review of the game), the game is set in the haunting ruins of New Dawn, a world inspired by Nowa Huta, a real historical district in Kraków, Poland. Cronos: The New Dawn unfolds across two timelines: a post-apocalyptic future decaying in despair, and the gritty, industrial 1980s reality. This powerful duality blends retro realism, dystopian sci-fi, and a retro-futuristic atmosphere to create a deeply immersive world filled with tension, mystery, and terror.
Players step into the hunting suit of The Traveler — an enigmatic agent of the Collective, sent into zones scarred by the Change, a cataclysmic event that shattered time, memory, and flesh. What remains is a world suspended between past and future — haunted, hostile, and unravelling. Survival is anything but certain.
