Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Tim Burton is no stranger to Gothic horror and romanticism, but one of his best demonstrations in the genre is the Johnny Depp-starrer Sleepy Hollow. It evokes a gran Guignol style that it carries with it all the way to the final frame. Once again, production design is top notch, and the supernatural elements work surprisingly well. If you’re going to give a legend that is nearly two centuries old a new backstory, do it like Tim Burton.
