The rape-revenge film is a bit of a controversial sub-genre. On the one hand, it depicts graphic sequences of rape, one of the most horrific acts that can be committed, and can be seen as exploitative. On the other, it depicts graphic scenes of torture, usually at the hands of the person who has been raped, which also turns people off.
