The Bear Attack – Backcountry
Backcountry is one of my favorite films of the year, but I can understand why someone wouldn’t like it. Narratively, you could compare it to last year’s Willow Creek, as it follows a couple through the woods and slowly leads up to one of the most intense tent scenes ever put on film. Some would call it slow, but I was never bored. The scene in question involves a bear attacking lead characters Alex (Jeff Roop) and Jenn (Missy Peregrym, Stick It), with Alex meeting a particularly grisly fate. The reality of the situation is what makes it so terrifying and difficult to watch. It’s an expertly choreographed scene and more than earns its place on this list.
