Willow Creek/Exists
I’m cheating a little bit to include both of these movies on here. But let me just say that I do not find Bigfoot/Sasquatch scary. I never thought the idea of doing a horror movie about it sounded very interesting. So imagine how surprising it was for me to come across two (found footage) Bigfoot movies in one year. Out of the two, Willow Creek is definitely the superior film, but I enjoyed both of them tremendously. Willow Creek, directed by Bobcat Goldthwait(!) is an extremely slow burn but since it’s only 77 minutes (including credits) it’s really not that bad. Plus, it leads to a climax that is terrifying and extremely disturbing. Even more impressive, the climax mostly takes place using one single take. It’s really impressive and the two leads (Bryce Johnson and Alexie Gilmore) really knock it out of the park with this one.
Exists, on the other hand is more of a slasher film. Directed by Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project), it’s just about a bunch of kids who go to a cabin in the woods and end up getting attacked by Bigfoot. On the whole, it’s pretty standard stuff but I was thoroughly entertained the whole time. I think the ending (and the explanation for why the kids are all being attacked) is very interesting and made me enjoy the movie more. It’s definitely worth a watch.
