Another one from 2016, James Wan’s sequel improved upon the 2013 original in pretty much every way. The film felt scarier, the characters were developed more robustly, and the overall tone was far more intense. I can’t remember a film where I cared more deeply about the people on the screen than with The Conjuring 2. That alone merits its place on this list.
