Five Nights at Freddy’s
Every so often, an indie horror game goes viral. Mark Hadley’s Slender: The Eight Pages was the big story of 2012, Outlast did something similar the following year, and this year gifted us the Five Nights at Freddy’s games.
I was a horror fan long before I started writing for Bloody Disgusting and that passion has been magnified through my work here. My job has introduced me to all sorts of horror games I would’ve otherwise missed and given me plenty of excuses to play video games, because it’s what I do. When you spend as much time as I have playing, writing and talking about games like the ones I cover here, a game like Five Nights at Freddy’s is refreshing. The formula may be familiar, but its execution is novel enough to separate it and its sequel from the myriad other indie horror games we get every year.
They’re also absolutely terrifying. That helps, too.
