5 Horror Games That Would’ve Made Better Movies!

Among the Sleep

GTM_1

Like P.T., Among the Sleep is a horror game with issues that are almost exclusively tied to its being a video game. The controls aren’t great, and that can lead to some frustrating platforming bits. Then there’s the occasionally goofy-looking characters that can detract from its otherwise serious and emotionally charged story.

As a film, these issues resolve themselves nicely.

I can’t think of many movies that are shown entirely from the perspective of a child, and fewer still that deliver most of their exposition through a sentient teddy bear. I say embrace the experimental, artsy approach — a toddler that’s very much the strong, silent type, with guidance and comedic relief from his stuffed comrade and a narrative that unfolds through flashbacks.

Among the Sleep surprised me. It’s a great example of mature storytelling and admirable imagination that’s unfortunately held back by the medium and the resources its makers had at the time. Bringing it to the big screen would only amplify its strengths.
