As Above, So Below (2014)

I did not like this movie. The setting and general premise sounded intriguing, but the execution was way off. That’s one poorly written, unscary, dull mess of a film, and I knew a lot of that going in. I’ve always had a strange fascination with the Paris Catacombs, [SHAMELESS PLUG IMMINENT] it was even the first place I covered in my four-part series on the scariest places that lurk on this big rock we call Earth.
The problem is the story isn’t all that interesting to follow, and the characters aren’t developed enough for me to be able to empathize with when, for example, a flaming car swallows one of them into what I assume is some sort of hell dimension.
It sucked as a film, but the setting and premise are each interesting enough for me to want to see what a horror game set in the Paris Catacombs could be like.
And if some of the comments on my worst horror flicks of 2014 list are anything to go by, there are some vocal As Above, So Below fans among the Bloody Disgusting crowd. To you I’ll say this. Before you let my entirely inconsequential opinions anger you, remember this: I genuinely enjoyed the first three Resident Evil films, so what do I know?
