Resident Evil: Extinction and Beyond (2007-2012)

To clarify: I do not want anyone to ever adapt the Resident Evil movies into video games, because that’d be some weird Ouroboros bullshit that could potentially bring about the apocalypse. Not the Resident Evil: Apocalypse — the actual end of the world.
These films have never really shared more than a passing resemblance to their source material. The second came the closest to staying “true” to the games, but I might only think that because I know what happened next. The series went completely off the rails with Extinction, and that mass of bad ideas and atrocious writing snowballed, eventually resulting in the incomprehensibly awful Retribution.
What the movies lack in substance they (mostly) make up for in beautifully choreographed fight scenes, buckets of gore and viscera, stylish visuals and a tendency to hilariously misuse the characters from the games.
Fan favorites like Leon, Claire and Chris were giddily skewered by Anderson and Co., but I was willing to forgive it every time Milla Jovovich would start kicking things in the face.
If you’re still wondering why the hell I included this game on the list, I did so because it fits with the theme of this article, which is about horror movies that could’ve made better games.
