[Original Story] The Official Japanese Twitter account for Biohazard, aka, Resident Evil has announced that a new Resident Evil game currently in development will be revealed at the Tokyo Game Show on September 10 in Japan, September 9 for the US and Europe.
The new game is codenamed ‘Project REsistence‘, and will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It is rumored to be a 4v1 multiplayer title, though no solid evidence yet supports that. Fans in attendance at TGS will be able to test it out and provide feedback, and given playtesting has been going on quite openly in Japan and the US, it doesn’t sound like the kind of approach Capcom would take with a mainline, singleplayer Resi.
In the wake of the success of the Resident Evil 2 remake, speculation has increased as to what the next project would be, with a Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake (though some fans are kind of already on that), Resident Evil 8, and even Resident Evil Revelations 3 all being contenders. Safe to say, a multiplayer title was not high on the list.
If it does prove to be a multiplayer Resident Evil, we’ll have to hope it’s a lot better than the last few efforts. Operation Raccoon City and Umbrella Corps are among the worst spinoffs in the franchise. Looking on the bright side, Capcom has handled the series well in recent years, so maybe it can do multiplayer right this time.
