So rather than do “Best & Worst” lists this year, I thought I would do lists for the “Most Surprising” and “Most Disappointing” movies of the year. You’ve seen my “Most Disappointing” list, and many of you had very strong opinions about that one. So for this post, I thought I would list off movies that I didn’t necessarily think were the best of the year (although some of them are), but instead were movies that I either a) thought were going to be bad but turned out to be better than I expected or b) movies that I didn’t know much about going in and came away pleasantly surprised. I’ve listed the following movies in no particular order. Let’s begin!
Housebound
The best way to watch this movie is to know absolutely nothing about it. Don’t even watch the trailer that I’ve tempted you with below (although it does a good job of not spoiling the movie). Horror comedy is always a bit tricky when it comes to marketing it. Luckily, Housebound is already on DVD/Blu-Ray so it doesn’t need marketing. Just take my word (and many other people’s) for it that this is a fantastic movie that perfectly blends horror and comedy together. The script is very smart and the twists are genuinely surprising. Do yourself a favor and watch Housebound as soon as possible. It is one of the most surprising movies I’ve seen this year.
