13 Sins
This is what I wanted Cheap Thrills to be, and I even saw Cheap Thrills before I saw 13 Sins! After seeing Cheap Thrills, I though this was just going to be some kind of ripoff of it. Boy, was I wrong. It’s essentially a similar story (though not an exact copy) in that our lead character (Mark Webber) gets a phone call one night from a mysterious man, who says he will give him money to perform various tasks. They start out as simple as killing a fly (and then eating it) and progressively get more intense with each task. The film has a sense of humor but I would say it takes itself pretty seriously (except for an ending joke involving Rutina Wesley’s girlfriend character, which I really liked). There’s a pretty cool twist with Ron Perlman’s cop that I honestly didn’t see coming and Webber is quite good in the lead role. All I’m saying is, give this one a shot if you liked Cheap Thrills (or even if you didn’t, since I think it’s a better film).
