Starry Eyes
Starry Eyes is another one I had never heard of before I watched it. It follows the story of Sarah (Alexandra Essoe) as she attempts to make in in Hollywood, though the means by which she has to achieve stardom are pretty gruesome, to say the least. This film is also kind of a slow burn, so I would recommend going in with as little knowledge as possible so you aren’t bored while watching it. Seeing Sarah’s transformation from the beginning of the film to the end is fascinating to watch, though. There are clearly influences of Cronenberg-ian body horror on display here and it’s awesome. Esssoe is also amazing in the lead role and proves to be game for everything directors Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer throw at her. It’s a very bold film and it’s not afraid to go to dark places.
