Gainesville Ripper – Scream
Danny Rolling, aka the Gainesville Ripper, inspired Kevin Williamson to write Scream. Rolling murdered eight people (five of whom were students) in Gainesville, Florida in 1989 and 1990, even posing some using a mirror for a more macabre effect. Rolling was executed by lethal injection in 2006. This is definitely a case of a film very loosely based on actual events, since Rolling didn’t use a phone or horror movie trivia to torment his victims like the killer in the Scream films does.
