Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)
This high-octane rescue begins with Alice ramping a motorcycle through a cathedral ‘s stained-glass window (always safety-conscious, she wears a helmet) and just gets more insane from there. It would be fair to assume the scene peaks when she uses the bike as a flying bomb to take out one of the nasty mutant “lickers” scaling the walls – even striking a heroic pose in front of the slo-mo explosion – but there’s still two monsters to massacre before the gang hauls ass. (In another possible nod to an earlier indie film, the falling cross calls to mind a similar scene in Alex De La Iglesia’s insane 1995 horror comedy The Day of the Beast.) Although Alice will later go head-to-head with the massive baddie Nemesis in the film’s climax, for me this is where the flick fires on all cylinders.
