The star of Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, Gabriel LaBelle is headed into the horror genre with the upcoming “darkly comedic” thriller Not Safe for Life, Variety reports.

Music video director Keith Schofield will direct the film Not Safe for Life.

Variety details, “Pitched as both a black comedy and a cyberpunk thriller, the film follows a man who takes on a group of internet trolls on a depraved online message board in order to defend the honor of a girl who doesn’t even know he exists.”

Caviar and Jon Watts’ label Freshman Year will produce.

Schofield said in a statement, “It’s the movie about the Internet I’ve been wanting to see my entire life and I still can’t believe we’re making. It’s going to be hilarious and terrifying and smart and stupid and loaded with sex and violence. My parents will be absolutely mortified.”

Producer Jon Watts (Clown, Cop Car, Spider-Man: No Way Home) adds, “I’ve been a fan of Keith’s music video and commercial work for a long time and am thrilled to support his fresh cinematic vision as he takes this next step as a filmmaker.”

Not Safe for Life will film in Bulgaria later this month.

Executive producers include Allison Hironaka and Bert Hamelinck.

Jon Watts is best known for directing the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man films, but he made his feature debut in the horror genre with Clown.

With Germany’s Turbine Medien releasing the 2014 film on 4K Ultra HD this week, Watts has opened up about his desire to turn Clown into a franchise.

“I still see a lot of potential in the premise, so when I watch it now, I’m like, ‘Oh, we could have done so much more there.’ I’d love for it to be like Evil Dead 2. I’d love to tell the same story, but jump off to even crazier places,” he told Variety.

Watts says that he and Clown co-writer Christopher Ford have a sequel mapped out.

“We’d want to do seven of them, make it a real long-term franchise like the Leprechaun or something like that. There are a lot of facets to the story that we’re still interested in telling, because it’s great. It’s kind of an evergreen premise where anyone can put on the suit.”

In Clown, a father dresses up in an old clown suit in an attempt to save his son’s birthday party, only to discover that it’s cursed — and there’s no way to remove it.

The project began as a faux trailer, embedded below. When Eli Roth got wind of it, he boarded the feature as a producer and secured financing. Despite a botched theatrical release from Dimension Films, Clown has garnered a cult following.

Watts recently made his return to horror with Final Destination Bloodlines, for which he conceived the story and served as a producer.

It’s been quite a while now since we’ve heard a peep about the Final Destination franchise, with the most recent reports from 2020 indicating that a new installment in the franchise was in development. Last we heard, the series is being retooled with a brand new movie, and now Jon Watts (Clown, Cop Car, Spider-Man: No Way Home) has come on board!

Variety reports that Watts will be producing the new Final Destination for HBO Max.

Based on a treatment by Watts, Lori Evans Taylor (“Wicked Wicked Games”) and Guy Busick (Scream 2021) are writing the new take on creator Jeffrey Reddick‘s popular franchise.

Producers on the new movie for New Line Cinema also include Dianne McGunigle (Cop Car) as well as Final Destination producers Craig Perry and Sheila Hanahan Taylor.

“Both Dianne and I have been massive fans of ‘Final Destination’ from the very beginning,” Watts said in a statement. “So to be able to have a hand in crafting a new story with the original team and New Line is going to be both fun and exciting.”

This will be the sixth installment in the hit franchise, and the first in over ten years. Each film centers on “Death” hunting down young friends who survive a mass casualty event.

Expect more brutal deaths on HBO Max soon! In the meantime, revisit the 2000 original with the Horror Queers, who cheated death alongside special guest Terry Mesnard of Gayly Dreadful.

The start of a brand new week brings a Wild Card pick, and 2014’s Clown is indeed a wild card. In 2010, director/writer Jon Watts and writer Christopher Ford uploaded a fake trailer to YouTube that boasted it was produced by Eli Roth. It wasn’t. But Roth admired their guts, and who doesn’t love a killer clown? The fake trailer became a self-fulfilling prophecy when Roth stepped up to produce after all.

Furthering that wild card theme is the sort of kitchen sink approach to Clown. There’s the creepy clown, some slasher-y gore, cheesy fun, and an interesting demonic twist to body horror. You’re not quite sure what you’re going to get the first time you sit down to watch this one. These days Watts has been busy directing the stand-alone MCU Spider-Man movies, and to think it was this little horror movie that started it all!

Synopsis: When a hired clown cancels his appearance at a birthday party, the birthday boy’s father attempts to save the day by running out to buy a clown suit. There’s something really bizarre about the one he finds, though; it’s cursed. The father is horrified to discover it won’t come off. Even worse, he develops a hunger for eating children.

Key Players: Andy Powers stars as Kent, the poor father who transforms into a monstrous clown thanks to the cursed suit. Laura Allen plays his wife, Meg. Best of all, look for character actor Peter Stormare to bring the exposition and entertainment as Herbert Karlsson, the suit’s previous owner.

Why It’s on the List: One of horror’s biggest taboos is the murder of children, and Clown boldly revolves around it. Even if most of the kills are off-screen, things get extremely bloody. The introduction of the body horror element is a superb touch, too. Nothing will make you cringe harder than poor Kent’s gruesome attempts at trying to take off the cursed suit. Also, have I mentioned Peter Stormare? He’s a perpetual scene-stealer, and that’s absolutely the case here. Above all, though, Clown presents really interesting demon mythology behind the cursed suit.

Ouch, That Has to Hurt: It’s cringe-worthy body horror moments like this one that makes Clown a fun time…

Where You Can Watch: Clown isn’t currently available to stream for free, but it is easy enough to find on digital.

Where does Clown rank on your favorite creepy clowns in horror?

Every week, we spotlight a kill that we just can’t get enough of. This is Kill of the Week.

Before he made Spider-Man: Homecoming, now out in theaters and garnering rave reviews from almost everyone, Jon Watts made his feature debut with a film that was a whole lot less family friendly than his foray into the Marvel Comics world. Believe it or not, the man who directed the new Spider-Man movie also directed CLOWN!

To make a long story short, Clown began its life as a faux trailer that Jon Watts put together back in 2010. The trailer advertised that the fake movie was an Eli Roth film, which caught the attention of Roth. This led Roth to partner with Watts on turning the trailer into an actual movie in 2014, which was finally released Stateside last year.

One year later, Watts brings freakin’ Spider-Man back to the screen. How crazy is that?!

The wacky premise of Clown is that a father puts on a clown suit for his son’s birthday and finds himself unable to take it off; he soon begins developing a hunger for children, all while literally transforming into a demonic clown. As absurd as the concept may be, Watts mostly plays it with a straight face, resulting in a movie that’s both wildly entertaining and incredibly dark.

Yes, the titular clown actually kills children. Several of them.

One of the key set-pieces takes place in a Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurant, where the unwillingly villainous Kent McCoy feasts on not one but two kids. He devours the first kid in the ball pit, entirely off-screen, but things get way more gruesome when he lures another into the jungle gym. He tears into the unlucky kid, and though we only see brief glimpses of what’s actually happening, we see enough – he rips the kid limb from limb, tearing his body completely in half.

Blood then pours down the yellow slide… so does one of the kid’s arms.

The horror movies of today often don’t quite push the boundaries that they did back in the ’80s, which made Clown such a refreshing watch for me last year. Back in the ’80s, it seemed like all bets were off. ANYTHING could happen… and it often did. Clown takes much the same approach, pulling no punches in an effort to make what I personally believe to be the ultimate killer clown horror movie.

Clown is original, bold and inventive, catering directly to those of us who watch horror movies to see crazy, taboo-smashing shit that we simply can’t find anywhere else.

And the Chuck E. Cheese massacre, well, it’s a great example of precisely that.

I don’t think I’ll ever understand how clowns became a staple of children’s entertainment. Not from a fascination or obsession standpoint, that I totally get. We’re drawn to things that illicit fear, things that frighten us. That is something I 100% understand. That’s why many of us love horror movies – we like to be scared. Realistically we all know that clowns are still popular because they’re a great device to scare us, but we still pretend that they provide a happy form of entertainment to kids? Why? I don’t buy for one second that kids have ever been amused by clowns and if there are kids out there that have they’re most likely freaks. Freaks! Clowns are in the news right now and it’s not for making anyone laugh!

Jon Watts and Christopher D. Ford understood the evil nature of clown when they uploaded their fake trailer to YouTube in 2010 for Clown and listed Eli Roth as the man responsible for bringing the film to life. Roth had no involvement in this whatsoever, but as it turns out the video caught his attention and rather than be upset by these dudes using his name he decided to produce a feature length version of that fake trailer. Why did he want to produce it? Because Roth knows people are truly freaked out by clowns! Thus Clown, the feature film was born. Of course this is stuff you already knew, so let’s get jump into the actual film!

Kevin McCoy (Andy Powers) leads a good life. He’s a young successful realtor with a beautiful wife, Meg (Laura Allen), and a young, happy son, Jack (Christian Distefano). When Kevin receives word that the clown they hired for Jack’s birthday party – Jack is obsessed with clowns and the whole party is clown-themed – is unable to make it, he takes matters into his own hands. After rummaging around in the basement of a house he has on the market he finds an old clown costume. Perfect! Kevin puts on the costume, rushes home and saves the day. He’s a big hit at the party and success is achieved. Things go so well that Kevin ends up falling asleep in the costume.

The next morning when Kevin awakes he is unable to get the costume off. Figuring it’s no big deal and is just going to require some extra work, he takes Jack to school and heads to work. At work Kevin tries to remove the costume once more. The nose, the bodysuit, the wig, none of it will come off. Kevin even tries cutting the suit off but just ends up slicing his wrist pretty bad.

Unsure of what to do Kevin does some digging on the man the costume used to belong to and that leads him to Herbert Karlsson (Peter Stormare). Karlsson is the brother to the now deceased man who owned the suit. Over tea Karlsson explains the costume is actually the skin and hair of an ancient demon from Northern Europe that used to feast on small children. Because Kevin put on the suit he is now slowly turning into the demon. Or in other words, Kevin is boned.

Roth described Clown as The Fly but with a clown. That’s pretty accurate I think. Not that Clown is anywhere close to being the film The Fly is, but it’s sort of the same basic idea. The entire time we’re with Kevin as he’s slowly transforming into this demonized clown (aka just your standard clown) and there’s nothing he can do about it. He knows he’s changing, he can feel it, but there’s nothing he can do to stop it. He even tries committing suicide which ends in a disastrously hilarious fashion. Let some fruity pebbles sit in a bowl of milk for a while and then throw that milk on your wall. That’s what it looks like when a clown attempts to commit suicide via gun shot to the head.

Watts does a good job balancing the laughs and scares. There are a few moments that I found to be truly creepy, particularly the beginning of the film because well clowns. At the same time the entirety of the film is very funny in a darkly comic way. The stuff with Stormare is brilliant, but I think the funniest moment may just be the death of a small child. Does that make me terrible? That probably makes me terrible but this scene plays out in such a humorous way. The humor is all dark stuff like this with Watts shying away from camp.

In Mr. Disgusting’s review he stated that maybe the concept of Clown is better suited as a short film and I agree to a point. If we look at strictly what this feature-length film delivers then I’d say yeah, probably could have done this as a short, but there are some bigger ideas that could have been expanded on. I would have loved to see Kevin fully transform into the demon and just be unleashed. Where’s that movie?!

The Blu-ray from Starz/Anchor Bay is about what you’d expect with a Blu-ray of a newer film in terms of picture quality for the most part. There were a few scenes were things did look slightly off, however. As I’ve stated many times I’m no PQ expert, but the film looked darker in certain scenes than you would expect. This could have been a purposeful decision made in the filmmaking side of things, but it felt like there were moments that could have had some real pops of color that weren’t that bright. In terms of special features there’s just a making-of featurette but it’s only about six minutes or so of Roth discussing how the film came to be and the fake mythology of clowns they created. It’s interesting, but really short.

Clown never fully goes all the way, but it is a ton of fun and absolutely worth your time.

Clown is available now on Blu-ray from Starz/Anchor Bay.

In 2012, a man named Jon Watts received a phone call from powerhouse horror filmmaker Eli Roth telling him he wanted to make a movie with him. Just a few months prior, Watts had created a fake trailer called Clown featuring a man who puts on a clown suit for his kid’s birthday party, can’t take it off when the evening’s over, and eventually turns into a killer clown. Allegedly, this film which was proved to be a parody later on, was to produced and directed by Roth himself. Although Watts used Roth’s name without his permission, and Roth could have gotten easily and justifiably upset and possibly even sued, Roth surprised everyone with his reaction: He decided to lend a helping hand, and produce Watts’ feature length version of the film.

“Well, it was really good. I mean, if it was terrible I might have had a different opinion of it” Roth states jokingly. “But, it was the first moment that I realized I could be parodied, which is oddly flattering in a way. I was like ‘Wow, I’ve actually become a parody of myself, because so many people thought the trailer was real, it came out about five or six years go, so it was really before Twitter and Facebook and social media and Instagram like you couldn’t dispel it instantly, it just sort of appeared on a website and everyone thought ‘Oh my god, this is real! This is real!’ So, I called up Jon Watts, and I told him how much I loved it. I thought it was great, I thought it was really clever and funny and smart and I thought, ‘Fuck, I wish I had made that movie!’ And I said ‘Do you want to turn this into a feature?’ And he said, ‘Oh my god, thank you for not suing me!’ and I said, ‘Well this is Hollywood, let’s wait until we make money, then we can sue each other. There’s no point in suing each other now’” (laughs).

Although Watts had jumped on major hurdle, getting the help he needed from Roth to turn his short into a feature length film, he now has to deal with the obstacle every indie filmmaker must face at some point in their careers – trying to get noticed in an overly superhero saturated world.

“[Marvel and DC are] spending like, baseline is forty million, and those movies are spending sixty or eighty or sometimes a hundred million in marketing, so that’s what’s making money. There’s a new superhero movie almost every single week, and what happens is all the oxygen gets sucked up” Roth explains. “The best screens and cinemas are going to those movies, and that’s just the world we live in, and that’s just movies in 2016, that’s what movies are, so this is one of the reasons we created CryptTV. My cofounder Jack Davis and I really worked hard to cultivate and build an audience with short form original digital scares that has a very dedicated following and dedicated audience that they are there on CryptTV for that and we know we can reach them, we know we can activate them, so it’s just being smart, and so now we’re using CryptTV, mainly, because why spend all that money running a commercial on television if not necessarily everybody cares about it? Whereas, we put that trailer on CryptTV, it got 2.7 million views organically. It was like eighty thousand shares, insane insane engagement, and you could tell it’s like, ‘Okay, now we’re getting this trailer to an audience who care about this movie then we can retarget the people that saw the trailer cause we did it through facebook, now we can go back to them with more content’. So, you’re only getting the clown content to the people that care about the clown content. That’s been the goal, we’ve done marketing movies like Krampus, and stuff with The Witch and that’s the new way of reaching people is reaching them through their phones and their very like, isolated pods”.

In the end, not only has Watts seemingly effectively battled the Marvel-heavy market and won, but he’s even gone a step further and joined the ranks of Hollywood’s most elite filmmaking club – by landing the upcoming Spider-Man movie directing gig. According to Roth, this multi million dollar company couldn’t have nabbed a man better suited for the job.

“You know Jon can make anything look good on limited resources, he made [Clown] for just over a million dollars, which, it’s not an easy movie to do, and he made it look like it was shot for fifteen, so. He’s off doing Spider-Man for Marvel now, and I’m really, really happy for him, it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. It’s just great when you work with a director like that where the as a producer, you can be there to help them creatively, and then let them do what they do best”.

Although holding one’s own in the face of superhero movies nowadays can be daunting, one upside that we can all agree on that the comic book cinematic universe provides is opportunities for up-and-comers like Watts and gang to flourish as filmmakers. It will be interesting to see what Watts has up his sleeve for the upcoming Spider-Man adaptation, especially because his work on Clown has been so impressive, particularly given his very limited financial resources.

Clown hits theaters and On Demand on June 17th, 2016.

Fans of Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, The Green Inferno, Hostel) can finally catch Jon Watts’ Clown in limited theaters and on various VOD platforms on June 17.

Andy Powers, Laura Allen, Peter Stormare and Elizabeth Whitmere star in the pic about a man who puts on an old clown costume, only to transform into a demon clown that eats children.

Check out a handful of new images that are both colorful and freaky.

Clown is a really fun movie, as I explained in my review from last year.

“’Clown’ is a story of a loving father who dons a clown outfit and makeup to perform at his son’s sixth birthday, only to later discover that the costume – red nose and wig included– will not come off and his own personality changes in a horrific fashion. To break the curse of the evil outfit, the father must make grim choices with his own family facing danger.”

To break the curse of the evil outfit, the father must make grim choices with his own family facing danger.”

The Marvel casting couch has been adding actors like crazy over the few days.  THR reported a couple days back that Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel) and Laura Harrier (“One Life To Live“) have joined the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming.  While details remain scarce on Harrier’s role, Revolori will reportedly be playing a friend of Peter Parker (Tom Holland) named “Manuel”.  The Jon Watts-directed film arrives in theaters in July 2017 and has a cast also comprised of Marisa Tomei and Zendaya.

Next up, actor Eka Darville recently spoke to SpoilerTV about his role as reformed junkie Malcolm Ducasse on Netflix’s “Jessica Jones“.  During the conversation, he revealed that we’ll actually see him before “Jones” gets its second season.  That’s right, Malcolm will rear his head again in “The Defenders” miniseries arriving next year.  At this time he appears to be unsure of how much screentime he will be receiving, but this marks another “Jones” co-star shaking it up with the other Netflix heroes after Jeri Hogarth’s (Carrie-Ann Moss) appearance on “Daredevil” this year.

Speaking of Netflix, their next Marvel series has added two more to its cast.  The currently-shooting “Iron Fist” has cast Jessica Stroup (“90210“) and Tom Pelphrey (“Banshee“, pictured above) as siblings Joy and Ward Meachum, respectively.  They are the children of Harold Meachum (David Wenham), who will be one of the show’s villains.  Meachum was the business partner of hero Danny Rand’s (Finn Jones) parents and had a hand in their deaths.  Rand, of course, is the titular superhero, Iron Fist.

Clown is a really fun movie that’s so unique, clever and ballsy in nature.”

“It’s Jack’s 10th birthday, but the clown has cancelled. His dad, Kent, finds an old clown suit in the attic and saves the party. But after the party is over, Kent has a problem… the suit won’t come off. What starts as a joke quickly turns into a hellish nightmare. Kent can feel himself changing, and his desperate attempts to free himself just leave him in agonizing pain.

As the suit takes hold of his body, Kent slowly endures a brutal transformation. As he changes, an uncontrollable hunger begins to consume him, an overwhelming and insatiable hunger… for children.”

With Captain America: Civil War about to hit theaters in a few weeks, Doctor Strange being in post-production and finally having a trailer, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 currently filming, all eyes are slowly turning towards the next Marvel Cinematic Universe installment on deck.  That film is Spider-Man: Homecoming and it will begin production this summer.  If Variety is correct, it might be doing so with a fan favorite character actor as one of its villains: Michael Keaton.  The film is, of course, set to be directed by Jon Watts (Clown, Cop Car).

Beyond a few instances of casting, we know very little about Marvel’s first Spider-Man film of their own.  We know that Tom Holland will be reprising the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man from Captain America: Civil War.  We also know that Marisa Tomei will be our new Aunt May and that Zendaya has been cast as a character named Michelle.  Plot-wise, we have nothing to go on but rumors at this point.

Those rumors point towards the possibility of multiple villains being in the film, although it is unclear at this time as to whether they will all be trading blows with the web-slinger or if some are simply being introduced as side characters for future heel turns in sequels.  If they are true, we could be seeing the likes of Adrian Toomes (aka The Vulture), Mac Gargan (aka The Scorpion), and/or Norman Osborn (aka The Green Goblin) pop up in the film.

Rumor (there’s that word again) has it that Keaton is being eyed to play Vulture, but there’s absolutely no confirmation of that at this time.   I could easily see him as Norman Osborn, Mac Gargan, or even J. Jonah Jameson.  Actors Kevin Bacon, Jonathan Banks, and Hugh Laurie are supposedly being eyed for roles as well, but again, there’s no confirmation of any of that at this time.

So what does it all mean?  It means that one way or another, we should be getting some more casting for this film in the lead-up to production.  Hopefully a synopsis and some character names as well when we do, but knowing Marvel, they might remain mum on those particular details.  Regardless, if even one of these rumors is to be believed, we’re looking at a Spidey film that will have at least a few great actors in it.  For now, that’s all I really need to know.

So what do you think?  Will Keaton make a good Spidey villain?  And is Vulture a good choice for him (if true)?  Feel free to tell us what you think (and crack a few Birdman jokes) below.

Next year, Marvel Studios will begin churning out three films per year.  Two of 2017’s offerings will be sequels, namely James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok, but sandwiched between the two will be an infinitely popular character finally getting his own Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure: Spider-Man.  Yep, after his debut next month in The Russo Bros.’ Captain America: Civil War, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) will redon his “underoos” next summer in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Yeah, I know, the title is a bit on the nose, especially after Sony managed to torpedo their own Spidey franchise not once, but twice within the past 14 years.  Now, after a few cinematic duds, our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has returned home to Marvel.  Hence “Homecoming”.  Okay, it might actually grow on me.  Besides, it’s at least more personal than the often-rumored “The Next Avenger” subtitle.

The title was finally revealed tonight at CinemaCon and here’s the official logo (courtesy of Germain Lussier)…

SpideyHomecoming

Not much is known about this MCU-sanctioned Spidey flick as of yet.  We know that it is being helmed by Jon Watts (Clown, Cop Car) and that the last known draft of the script was penned by John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein (Vacation).  We know that Tom Holland will be reprising the role of Spider-Man from Civil War.  We know that Marisa Tomei has been cast as Aunt May Parker and Zendaya as someone named Michelle.  There are rumors that Robert Downey Jr. will appear in some fashion as Iron Man, that Hugh Laurie is the front-runner for prickly news editor J. Jonah Jameson, and that Vulture is rumored to be one of the villains, although none of this has been confirmed.

Mostly, we just know that we are getting a brand new Spider-Man movie on July 28, 2017 and that it’ll be lovingly put to screen by Marvel themselves.  Will they knock it out of the park?  I hope so.  Reactions to Holland’s take on the character from those who have seen Civil War have been almost universally positive, which is certainly encouraging.  As they say, the third time’s a charm.  Let’s hope that holds true here.

If you didn’t already find a way to see it, you’re probably dying to see Clown, which was produced by Eli Roth (Hostel, Green Inferno, Cabin Fever).

Last week we told you that the wait looked to be finally coming to an end, with us celebrating a VOD release slated for March 18th.

The day came and went with Jon Watts’ film about a man who puts on an old clown costume, only to transform into a demon clown that eats children, never releasing. We even had Bloody readers pre-order the film to no avail.

In fact, there were actual reports of the Clown trailer playing before The Witch, only to have it pulled from its micro-theatrical run as well.

All we can do is speculate, which has me wondering what’s contractually guaranteed? Is the hold up that the distributor has to put in a specific amount of theaters? Do they have to commit marketing costs? Or maybe it’s something else. Whatever the case, Clown still isn’t out and that’s a huge bummer because it’s pretty fun.

Roth actually hit me back telling me that we can potentially expect a release this coming June (watch for details soon)! We’ve also confirmed that Dimension Films is still behind the release.

Clown stars Peter Stormare, Laura Allen, Christian DiStefano, Elizabeth Whitmere, Matthew Stefiuk, and Andy Powers.

“It’s Jack’s 10th birthday, but the clown has cancelled. His dad, Kent, finds an old clown suit in the attic and saves the party. But after the party is over, Kent has a problem… the suit won’t come off. What starts as a joke quickly turns into a hellish nightmare. After a long search, it appears Marvel has finally locked in on their new Peter Parker.

Announced by both Marvel and Sony Pictures, Tom Holland (pictured below; Locke, The Impossible) has officially been cast as the new Peter Parker in Spider-Man, with Jon Watts (Clown, Cop Car) selected to direct the film.

Spider-Man will swing back into action on July 28th, 2017, although he’ll first appear in Captain America: Civil War, which will hit theaters May 6, 2016.

Holland beat out Asa Butterfield, Timothee Chalamet, Liam James (“Psych,” The Way, Way Back) and Nat Wolff for the role. Butterfield has allegedly been cast, but behind-the-scenes rumblings allege he sabotaged his chances by openly talking about the role before ever signing on.

With Holland, we get a younger, more down to Earth look. I’m not familiar with his work, but Marvel and Sony are boasting about his performances.

Tom-Holland

“It’s a big day here at Sony,” exclaimed Tom Rothman, Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group Chairman. “Kevin, Amy and their teams have done an incredible job. The Marvel process is very thorough, and that’s why their results are so outstanding. I’m confident Spider-Man will be no exception. I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start.”

Marvel producer Kevin Feige commented, “As with James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and the Russo brothers, we love finding new and exciting voices to bring these characters to life. We spent a lot of time with Jon and find his take and work inspiring.”

Sony’s Amy Pascal added, “Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world. With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

From Eli Roth, check out this first ever clip from Clown (read our review), stemmed from a faux trailer by Jon Watts about a man who puts on an old clown costume, only to transform into a demon clown that eats children.

In the clip, watch as a young child enters a jungle gym, only to never exit. What horror await him inside? A child eating clown, maybe?

Now on DVD & Blu-ray in the UK, the pic stars Peter Stormare, Laura Allen, Christian DiStefano, Elizabeth Whitmere, Matthew Stefiuk, and Andy Powers.

Even though there’s no release date set for the U.S. (as of this writing), the Eli Roth-produced Clown is now on home video in the UK.

The feature spawned from a faux trailer that pegged Roth as the director of a horror film about a man who transforms into an evil clown.

Jon Watts directs the story that begins when a real estate agent finds a clown suit that he puts on for his son’s birthday party. The craziness begins almost immediately when he can’t remove the colored wig or red nose that are synonymous with clowns.

While there’s a lot of fun stuff happening in Clown, the concept is better suited for a short film (see the irony in that?).

Clown comes sprinting out of the gate, delivering all sorts of juicy surprises. But as quick as things get going, everything comes to a screeching halt. The meat of the film feels like a short concept stretched into feature length, and that’s ultimately the film’s undoing.

Even though it’s mostly a bore, there’s still some really cool and fun stuff scattered throughout. Watts has our clown attempt suicide, building a ton of suspense around a homemade device that would decapitate him (the only way to kill the demon). Also surprising is Watts’ unapologetic killing of children, although he makes the huge mistake in not taking it all the way (we never actually see these children die, or be eaten).

Whenever the clown bleeds, it leaves a colorful rainbow of gore that represents the missed opportunity. Still, it’s hard to not recommend a film that’s so unique, clever and ballsy in nature. Clown is still a great weekend rental, especially for horror fans sick of the generic crap being unloaded on a weekly basis.

These are the moment I celebrate and appreciate horror auteur Eli Roth, who has directed a slew of successful genre film including Cabin Fever, Hostel and The Green Inferno. Using his name as power, he’s helped independent filmmakers achieve their dream, no matter how whacky of a vision they may have.

Proof is in Clown, stemmed from a faux trailer by Jon Watts about a man who puts on an old clown costume, only to transform into a demon clown that eats children.

Premiering at FrightFest Glasgow 2015 and coming to DVD & Blu-ray in the UK March 2, 2015, we now have a new international trailer that boasts tons of new footage that really puts the genre on its head. Clown looks to carry heavy homage to It, American Werewolf In London and even various vampire films. It’s a goofy premise that takes itself dead serious, which makes it not only suspenseful but also fun.

While this isn’t some Hollywood wide release, I expect Clown to be even more entertaining than Stitches.

“It’s Jack’s 10th birthday, but the clown has cancelled. His dad, Kent, finds an old clown suit in the attic and saves the party. Christian DiStefano will star in the Eli Roth-produced Clown, says the Niagara Falls Review.

The seven-year-old Niagara Falls actor is currently in Ottawa filming the spook flick, produced by the Hostel and Cabin Fever director. Distefano stars as Jack, the son of a man who tries on a clown suit for a birthday party and becomes possessed by the spirit which inhabits it.

The film co-stars Elizabeth Whitmere (Being Erica) and Matthew Stefiuk.

Jon Watts is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Christopher D. Ford. It became an internet “thing” when a spoof trailer circulated back in 2011. In it, “A loving father dons a clown outfit, wig, bulbous nose and pancake makeup to entertain at his son’s sixth birthday after the clown-for-hire is a no-show. Unable to take off the clown garb, dad’s personality changes in horrific fashion. He and his family race to break the curse of the evil outfit before he undergoes a complete transformation into a homicidal killer with over-sized shoes.”

Clown is scheduled for release next year.

Bloody Disgusting reader Erik Yates tipped us off to an interview over at Behind the Thrills with writer-director-producer-actor Eli Roth, who is making press rounds to promote his Vegas attraction, “The Goretorium,” opening this September.

Hiding at the end of the chat, Roth reveals that there may finally be some turkey-f*cking in the future. He tells the site that Thanksgiving, the feature version of his faux trailer from the 2007 Grindhouse, is definitely happening.

“It’s gonna happen. I’m working with the Clowns writers on it,” he tells the site referring to Jon Watts and Christopher D. Ford (Robot & Frank), the duo who came into Roth’s world after making their own faux trailer back in November 2010. “[We] have a called scheduled for tomorrow afternoon,” he adds stating that they will co-write the script with Roth and his writing partner Jeff Rendell. “We finally cracked the story and figured out how to make it really, really scary, and a reason to do it.
