Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi is hard at work on his second directorial feature, Wrong Number, and has shared the first images from the stalker horror movie on socials.

Mescudi, who writes, directs, and stars in the film, writes on X, “Heads ain’t ready…“

Barbie Ferreira (Faces of Death) stars opposite the Grammy-winning artist.

Wrong Number centers on Ibn (Mescudi), a lonely self-help author whose unexpected romance with a mysterious woman named Eliza (Ferreira) turns into a waking nightmare when he becomes the target of an unseen stalker and the prime suspect in a string of murders.

The sneak peek images give our first look at Ibn.

Lucy Barrett (Deep Water), Dewayne Perkins (The Blackening), Clifton Powell (Ray) and Laura Harrier (Michael) also star in Wrong Number, which went into production last month in Los Angeles. Adam Madrzyk is the film’s cinematographer.

“A lot of people know that I’m a huge horror buff. And it was only a matter of time before I’d jump into the genre myself with my own stories,” Mescudi said previously. “Wrong Number is a fun ride, an original story that has all the elements of an epic horror thriller, and I can’t wait for you all to experience it.”

The musician turned filmmaker is fresh off the world premiere of Adam Egypt Mortimer’s Pathetic Fallacy, a cosmic pseudo-musical horror movie that marks Mescudi’s first leading role. His other genre credits include X, Trap, and Silent Night.

His directorial debut, the addiction drama Doe, is coming soon.

Disney’s Hocus Pocus remains a perennial Halloween favorite, 33 years later, with the original cast frequently reuniting in Salem this time of year for events. This year, some of them revisited the 1993 film’s Salem shooting location to recreate one of its most memorable scenes.

Omri Katz, Larry Bagby, and Tobias Jelinek dive back into their roles to recreate the early scene that sees teen protagonist Max (Katz) peddle through Old Burial Hill in Marblehead, where he’s accosted by bullies Ice (Bagby) and Jay (Jelinek). Watch below as the original film’s footage gets spliced with their present-day recreation.

They’re having a blast, interjecting bits of comedy into the classic scene. Katz’s line about smoking is likely a knowing wink to his 2022 interview with EW, where he confessed to being stoned during production.

While the OG stars, along with Vinessa Shaw, are back in Salem to host their annual Buncha Halloween event and celebrate a Halloween classic, a third film is currently in development. Hocus Pocus 3 is officially in early development at Disney, with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy set to reprise their roles as the Sanderson sisters.

Hocus Pocus 2 director Anne Fletcher and writer Jen D’Angelo were attached to reunite on the threequel when initially announced in 2023, with D’Angelo commenting, “I’m hoping that we are able to explore every aspect of these stories and take these characters on a bunch of fun adventures. 3 is still very much in the early stages, we don’t really know what it is, but we’re exploring all options.”

The sequel is still in early development, though, so no word yet on whether Fletcher or D’Angelo are still attached. The Sanderson sisters aren’t going anywhere, though.

1993’s Hocus Pocus sees three 17th-century witches — Winifred (Midler), Sarah (Parker), and Mary (Najimy) — resurrected on Halloween to steal the life essence from the children of Salem, Massachusetts. The witches returned 29 years later in Hocus Pocus 2, with three high school students tasked with stopping the ravenous sisters from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallows’ Eve.

Lionsgate has acquired Portrait of God, the feature adaptation of a viral short from filmmaker Dylan Clark, and has announced that Golden Globe and Emmy nominee Chase Infiniti will star in the film.

What’s more, the religious horror movie marks the first time horror masters Sam Raimi and Jordan Peele will work together as producers on the project.

Written by Dylan Clark and Joe Russo (The Inheritance), the feature version of Portrait of God “expands on the world of [Clark’s] viral horror short of the same name.”  Clark uploaded it to YouTube three years ago, where it went viral and has amassed over 8.6 million views.

The short centered around a provocative painting that appears blank to some while others see the face of God within the darkness. As she herself stares into the blackness of the painting, it’s not long before something starts staring back at her…

Chase Infiniti is the breakout star from One Battle After Another and Hulu’s “The Testaments.” Dylan Clark has also been tapped to helm the 2027 reboot of The Blair Witch Project.

Fogelson said, “We’re delighted to deepen our creative partnership with Dylan Clark, whose remarkable talent and distinctive perspective make him one of the most exciting emerging voices in horror. With Sam and Jordan, two of the genre’s most influential producers, the extraordinary Chase Infiniti starring, and Dylan at the helm, this is an exceptional creative team. We believe they have all the ingredients for a film that is haunting, thought-provoking, and scary as hell.”

Clark said, “With Blair Witch, I’m experiencing firsthand the trust Lionsgate places in its filmmakers, and I couldn’t be happier that Portrait of God has found a home there as well. I’m also thrilled to welcome Chase Infiniti to our team. She blew me away in One Battle After Another and is one of the most exciting young actors working today.“

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will produce through their Ghost House shingle, as will Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld through their Monkeypaw Productions, as well as Joe Russo, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Clark. Romel Adam and Jose Cañas will oversee for Ghost House. On behalf of Monkeypaw, Chris Rosati is executive producing through his first look deal at his shingle NAT20 Films.

If horror-comedy Ghost in the Cell isn’t already on your radar, this ultra-gory exclusive clip that gets creative with its office-set kill should do the trick. Maybe don’t watch while at work, though, as the clip below features an office worker getting brutally dispatched by an unseen assailant.

Ghost in the Cell releases in theaters on October 2, 2026.

The horror comedy is set in “a high-security prison ruled by feuding gangs and a tyrannical warden. The arrival of a new inmate kicks off a series of mysterious, gruesome murders that leave its victims on morbid display. The hapless inmates trapped in the prison must overcome their rivalries to unmask an invisible, otherworldly enemy. No one is safe as the cells cage in the horrors and a ghost roams the prison with murderous intent.”

Joko Anwar (Satan’s Slaves, Impetigore) writes and directs.

Abimana Aryasatya, Almanzo Konoralma, Aming Sugandhi, Arswendy Bening Swara, Bront Palarae, and Dimas Danang Suryonegoro star.

Rob Hunter wrote in his 4-skull review that Ghost in the Cell is “easily Anwar’s best, most fully realized film yet. It’s a genre bender that goes high in its commentary, goes low in its broadly comic silliness, and fills its middle with wet, sticky, beautifully crafted practical effects. As if all of that isn’t enough of a reason to watch, the film also joins the too-short list of movies that feature the cast dancing their asses off during the end credits.“

“We’re thrilled to bring Ghost in the Cell to North America,” said distributor Well Go USA CEO Doris Pfardrescher. “As longtime fans of Joko Anwar, having previously released his film Gundala, we’ve seen firsthand how strongly his work resonates with audiences here. Ghost in the Cell is an absolute blast – it’s wildly entertaining and deliciously gory in all the right ways.”

Get caught up in the film’s gore and violence below, and look for the horror movie in select theaters tomorrow.

Something wicked stirs within The Fog this Halloween, and it’s bringing Hell with it. Dead by Daylight, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, is bringing the Halloween spirit with fresh content every week.

That includes a new “Blighted” look for Jason Voorhees, Art the Clown, and the return of the annual Haunted by Daylight event.

One of Dead by Daylight’s most beloved spooky season traditions oozes once more as the Hallowed Blight Collection returns October 1, bringing its signature stomach-churning mix of pustules, mutations, and orange serum to three new Killers.

Earlier this year, the iconic hockey-masked killer first joined the Fog, delighting fans in record-slashing numbers. Now, Jason Voorhees gets his first taste of Blight, twisting the already imposing Killer into something truly grotesque. He’ll be joined by equally unsettling new Blighted outfits for The Houndmaster and The Knight.

Dead by Daylight’s Halloween staple event, Haunted by Daylight, returns October 13 and runs for three weeks.

This year’s event embraces a more traditional Halloween aesthetic, bathing The Entity’s Realm in an orange haze filled with pumpkins, Rifts, and more, a similar treatment. Some of the bigger changes for this iteration include the Void Realm itself now being closed, despite its signature Rifts remaining. Void Rifts, once opened, become Void Portals and can be used to teleport around the Map, creating new opportunities for escapes, ambushes, and general surprises.

Plenty of goodies are also available, with earnable Tricks and Treats Collection outfits for Shane Wiigwaas and The Hillbilly, Survivor Shirts for Sable Adam and Jeff, and new Killer Masks for The Singularity, The Unknown, and The Trapper, all up for grabs.

Arriving on October 20, the Diablo Collection brings the world of Blizzard’s legendary series to Dead by Daylight with six new outfits inspired by iconic characters and classes from across the franchise.

At the heavily horned head of the pack is Lilith, the Daughter of Hatred herself, brought to horrifying life as a Visceral outfit for The Artist. Featuring unique menu animations and vicious new Mori, Lilith has been carefully crafted for The Fog, maintaining her unmistakable silhouette while welcoming a few devilish details for the eagle-eyed Diablo faithful. Also making the leap between realms, Belial, The Lord of Lies, arrives in Dead by Daylight as an outfit for The Dredge, turning its nightmarish form into a six-faced demon of deception. Mephisto, The Lord of Hatred,  rounds out the trio of Killer Cosmetics as an outfit for The Nurse, pairing his imposing design with The Nurse’s supernatural elegance.

All three outfits are Visceral or Ascended, and pull out all the stops with unique voice lines performed by the characters’ original Diablo voice actors, Caroline Faber, Ray Porter, and Steve Blum.

Survivors will have plenty to enjoy as well, with outfits inspired by Diablo IV’s playable classes. Zarina Kassir harnesses the arcane as the Sorceress, David King prepares for battle as the Barbarian, and Taurie Cain appropriately communes with the dead Necromancer.

Perhaps most of all, play as Terrifier‘s Art the Clown starting October 27, and look for a sombrero sporting Dia de los Muertos edition of Ghost Face on October 30.

To chase away the Halloween blues, Dead by Daylight is also unleashing the Lights Out: Stranger Things Collection that will bring Netflix characters Nancy Wheeler, Steve Harrington, and Vecna into the Fog on November 5.

Pamela Voorhees (Linda Cardellini) is not okay in the brief sneak peek at the opening scene of the prequel series “Crystal Lake.” The NSFW clip reveals a blood-drenched Pam as she shakily attempts to remove an embedded tooth from her knuckle.

All episodes of “Crystal Lake” premiere Thursday, October 15, only on Peacock.

The series follows single mother Pam Voorhees, who has been unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before. When two strangers arrive at Pam’s door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events is set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering: just who is Pam Voorhees?

Callum Vinson (“Chucky”) is playing young Jason in “Crystal Lake,” which will tell the origin story of the masked slasher who has stalked the grounds of Crystal Lake for decades.

The show’s cast also includes William Catlett (Abigail), Cameron Scoggins (“Nashville”), Devin Kessler (“Godfather of Harlem”), Gwendolyn Sundstrom, Nick Cordileone (“Warrior”), Joy Suprano (“Fleishman Is in Trouble”), Danielle Kotch (Sinister), Christopher Denham (“Shining Girls”), Nancy Nagrant (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), and Phoenix Parnevik.

Brad Caleb Kane (“IT: Welcome to Derry”) is the showrunner for the series, and describes the series as “a mixtape of genre.”

“Everybody in this world is living in a different genre in their mind,” Kane says, “until they collide with the genre that Pam is in.” Kane clarifies Crystal Lake is “100 percent” still a slasher. What’s more, the series is set in the ’70s.

Though the series will revisit fan-favorites, including Crazy Ralph, the trailer indicates there’s more to Jason’s condition than meets the eye. Based on the clip below, there’s a lot more to his mom, too.

The eight-episode series is set to be directed by Michael Lennox (“Derry Girls”), Celine Held & Logan George (Caddo Lake), and Quyen Tran (“The Pitt”).

Bong Joon Ho’s The Host celebrates its 20th anniversary this year with a 4K restoration that brings the acclaimed creature feature to US theaters.

Magnolia Pictures will release the 4K restoration of The Host in theaters nationwide on November 20, and the release features an exclusive conversation with the Oscar®-winning filmmaker.

The film follows “Gang-du (Song Kang-ho), who works at a food stand on the banks of the Han River. Dozing on the job, he is awakened by his daughter, Hyun-seo (Ko A-sung), who is angry with him for missing a teacher-parent meeting at school. As Gang-du heads to the riverbank with a delivery, he notices a large crowd gathered, taking pictures and talking about something hanging from the Han River Bridge.

“The otherwise idyllic landscape suddenly descends into bedlam when a terrifying creature climbs onto the riverbank and begins crushing and devouring people. Gang-du and his daughter run for their lives, but the creature suddenly grabs Hyun-seo and disappears back into the water.

“The government announces that the monstrous creature is apparently the Host of an unidentified virus. Having feared the worst, Gang-du is stunned when he receives a phone call from his daughter. She is frightened—but very much alive. Determined to rescue her, Gang-du soon makes plans to infiltrate the forbidden zone near the Han River and save his daughter from the clutches of the horrifying Host.“

The 2006 genre-bender features state-of-the-art special effects from Weta Workshop (King Kong, The Lord of the Rings) and The Orphanage (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Sin City), gripping spectacle, and a deeply emotional story.

The filmmaker recently teased his desire to return to the realm of horror after his upcoming animated film, Ally.

Bong Joon Ho, who wrote and directed The Host, reflects on the film in the announcement video below.

Tron: Ares and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales director Joachim Rønning is helming a mysterious new horror movie, System, Deadline reports.

While production is currently underway in London, casting and plot remain shrouded in secrecy at this time.

We do know that Rønning is directing from his own script, co-written with his brother Andreas Rønning. He’s also producing.

Spooky Pictures’ Roy Lee (Weapons, It) and Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity, Insidious) are also producing. Image Nation Studios CEO Ben Ross (Watcher, Company) and Spooky Pictures’ Rami Yasin (Hokum) are executive producing.

Spooky Pictures is a label that’s popped up a lot in recent months, with projects including 4 x 4: The Event, Sundowning, Occupant, and V/H/S: SCP. The company previously teamed with Image Nation Studios on genre projects including Late Night with the Devil, Charlie Polinger’s The Plague, and Hokum starring Adam Scott.

Stay tuned for more as it arrives, including whether System will be a more scaled-back effort from Rønning, who tends to deliver big-budget franchise films filled with spectacle.

It’s October 1, and spooky songwriting collective LVCRFT, comprised of Evan Bogart, Amanda “MNDR” Warner, and Peter Wade, is back with a new album that’s enlisted horror icons to celebrate the Halloween spirit.

“Skeleton Sam’s Deadtime Stories,” the group’s eighth album, debuts today on all digital platforms and features a whopping 27 tracks and framed like a late-night broadcast filled with faux trailers between tunes. The allbum’s host? None other than Ghostface voice actor himself, Roger L. Jackson, as Skeleton Sam.

Good grief, the album is stacked with horror talent.

The album features John Kassir, Robert Englund, Heather Langenkamp, Mick Garris, Robert Rodriguez, Bruce Campbell, Alyssa Sutherland, Ernie Hudson, David Dastmalchian, Jenna Davis, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Katharine Isabelle. Christopher Young, who scored  LVCRFT’s 2022 album ‘Scream Warriors,’ closes the record on “Cabinet Of Horrors.”

In other words, it’s the only album where you can hear songs by Freddy Krueger, M3GAN, Ash, Nancy Thompson, Evil Dead Rise‘s Ellie, a Ghostbuster, a Crypt Keeper, and more.

Cindy  Weintraub of Humanoids of the Deep plays a character named Principal Weintraub in the wraparound skits. Cynthia Garris, Johnny Plague and Monte Revolta feature  across the record.

Read on the for the full track listing and listen below.

Despite technological and cultural shifts over the decades, the hells of being a teen remain largely unchanged by time. That begs the obvious question preceding the fourth adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie (five if we’re counting The Rage: Carrie 2): why? Series creator, writer, and showrunner Mike Flanagan answers that question with a reimagining that not only brings the telekinetic teen into the digital world, but gives the entire town complex interiority that deepens the tragedy. In doing so, though, it loses sight of the core text by season’s end in its fervent bid to deliver compelling character arcs.

Flanagan’s Carrie adheres to the basic brushstrokes of King’s classic, but only barely. This vision of Carrie White, played endearingly by Summer H. Howell, is a doe-eyed sweetheart more outgoing than her previous counterparts. Her devoutly religious and misanthropic mother, Margaret White (Samantha Sloyan), isn’t a monster but a victim herself. Here, it’s her overly protective, motherly instincts while navigating a modern world that lead to missteps. A tragic construction site suddenly thrusts the sheltered Whites into society, where Carrie finds herself navigating the hierarchy of high school.

Summer H. Howell, Samantha Sloyan

It’s here that Flanagan dedicates his focus; Carrie spends a lot of time with not just Carrie’s peers but the Ewen High School faculty as well. Flanagan explores the nuances of teaching during a volatile time, where social media wreaks devastating havoc upon the lives of students and teachers alike. Rita Desjardin (Amber Midthunder) isn’t just the supportive teacher attempting to protect the vulnerable Carrie from her callous peers. She’s also a young woman trying to find her footing in a new career and new town. Matthew Lillard endears as the earnest principal trying his best while dealing with unruly parents, though it’s Tim Bagley who shines as a beacon of warmth as Ewen’s unwaveringly kind guidance counselor.

While Sue Snell (Siena Agudong) becomes a more fully realized, morally complex protagonist more adjacent to Carrie’s story, it’s popular mean girl Chris Hargensen (Alison Thornton) who receives the biggest narrative transformation. Thornton is incredible at humanizing one of King’s most vicious bullies, helped by a troubled home life. Though Flanagan affords sympathy for this villain, it’s also one of the series’ biggest missteps. It’s a tall ask of viewers to witness prolonged torment inflicted over eight episodes, and Chris is suitably nasty. It’s understandable why the catty mean girl is lashing out, but it didn’t soften this viewer to her cruelty in any way. Not helping is just how effective Howell is as the unwaveringly pure and disarming is as Carrie; the iconic shower scene becomes even more barbarous in the age of social media.

As a Constant Reader and constant King adaptor, Flanagan also expands on the telekinesis thread teased by the novel’s ending. Likely banking on subsequent seasons, though, this important subplot is relegated mostly to the background as a mystery driver that only fully roars to life in the season’s rushed final two episodes. So much time is spent with these characters that Carrie nearly forgets to wrap up, rushing through the prom to deliver important developments for the series’ future.

Thalia Dudek, Summer H. Howell, Alison Thornton

Carrie is at its best and most compelling when focused on exploring the very human failures of adults and institutions. Carrie is put through the wringer, ensuring no shortage of heartbreak and drama, but Carrie paints a persuasive picture of a bustling town full of people so caught up in their own baggage that kids easily slip through the cracks. But in doing so, Carrie White winds up losing even more agency than before, making her calamitous story all the more painful to see unfold.

Telekinetic subplots involving mystery players and the fervent desire to explain her bully’s motives dangle Flanagan’s overarching vision, but by season’s end Carrie feels more passive puppet than tragically empowered. The cast is incredible, but Carrie‘s parts are stronger than its not quite cohesive whole.

This new adaptation saves its most radical departures for last, setting up a bizarre continuation not earned by the eight-ep first season. Flanagan’s trademark earnestness and empathy, combined with his talented cast and crew, ensure deep rooting interest in Ewen’s residents despite an inevitable outcome, but it’s not (yet) as radical a departure as expected. It’s way more effective as a teen drama than a horror show, though, and there’s no tangible sense of peace or closure after enduring an entire season of Carrie’s torture.

Carrie begins streaming on Prime Video on October 7.

There’s a very niche subgenre of genre thrillers that sees its lead trapped in a toilet as circumstances grow increasingly deranged. That’s certainly the case for Flush, which the trailer promises will be insane.

Dark Sky Films releases Flush on Digital on October 9.

Directed by French filmmaker Grégory Morin and written by David Neiss, the premise for Flush does sound suitably insane. In the film, “Trying to win back his girlfriend in a shady nightclub, Luke finds himself caught in the middle of a drug deal gone wrong. Left for dead with his head stuck in the hole of a squat toilet, he must survive a nightmarish odyssey involving violent dealers, a junkie rat, and an ever-spiraling series of deranged and chaotic events.“

Jonathan Lambert, Élodie Navarre, Elliot Jenicot, and Rémy Adriaens star.

Flush received a successful festival run leading to its release, screening at Beyond Fest, Sitges Film Festival, Fantasia, The Overlook Film Festival, Chattanooga Film Festival, and Phoenix Film Festival. It won Best International Feature at Fantasia’s 2025 edition, and Sitges described the film as “scatological horror in its purest form,” that’s “unlike anything you’ve seen before.

“Flush was born out of a desire to push the boundaries of genre and explore the chaos of human desperation through humour and horror. Dark Sky Films has a legacy of bold storytelling, and it’s the perfect home for the film’s US release,” said WTF Films’ Gregory Chambet.

Dark Sky added, “Flush is a wildly entertaining and unforgettable ride – just the kind of fearless, boundary-pushing horror we are known for at Dark Sky.”

Screambox exclusive Creature of the Pines arrives on October 13.

It’s a found footage horror film that follows “a skeptical documentary team into the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Tasked with investigating a series of mysterious vanishings, the crew relies on interviews and field research to uncover the local lore. But as they venture deeper into the wilderness, the legend begins to close in on them, turning their production into a terrified struggle for survival against something that has been watching them all along.”

Chris Ruppert & Tyler Transue write and direct. Greg Poppa, Eric Melaragni, Austin Green, and Kelly Warren star. The horror film arrives on streaming after making its festival premiere earlier this year at Panic Fest.

Devil’s Night, October 30, brings original series Your Dearest Darkest Friend with host Ted Raimi.

In Your Dearest Darkest Friend, Raimi welcomes celebrity guests into his haunted manor for an evening of confabulation, cocktails, and the presence of an uncanny creature or two… Joined by his puppet companions, Raimi takes viewers on a delightfully dreadful journey into the minds of some of the biggest names in horror—with a twisted sensibility only Ted Raimi can deliver.

While guests will be announced soon, The Last Podcast on the Left collaborates and joins the series in a special way, lending their voices to the various puppet denizens to assist Ted Raimi in hosting duties.

What Happened to Doris? isn’t a remake of The Entity, one of the most notorious and disturbing horror movies of the ’80s, but is based on the true story that inspired it. Still, approaching the Doris Bither case and its sensitive subject matter was a daunting task.

The 1974 paranormal case investigated Doris Bither’s claims of being sexually assaulted by an entity in her Culver City home, one that in turn inspired a number of horror films, including The Entity, which sees Barbara Hershey’s character violently raped by an unseen threat repeatedly. It’s the type of material that understandably causes trepidation.

That hesitation is what made director Nick Simon (The Girl in the Photographs) ultimately say yes, despite initially balking at the idea.

Simon explained to Bloody Disgusting at Fantastic Fest, where the film premiered, “Well, it was the idea, when it was pitched to me, and they’re like, ‘Yeah, there’s a true story of The Entity, we’d love you to direct it.’ I was like, ‘Oh.’ I didn’t want to read it. Why do you remake that? Also, how do you remake that in 2026? Well, then you start reading the script, and then I start talking to the writer, and [Thomas Fenton] is very collaborative. He built this relationship with the real Brian Harris, her real son. Once we started talking to him, and now knowing all the things that really happened, it became a more interesting story. Like, ‘Okay, well, this story is very current, and it’s not about that.’ I feel like the takeaways could be: you look at it as a story in 2026, it’s very relevant. I think also being scared of something is probably the reason you should do it.”

Heather Graham stars in 'What Happened to Doris?'

Being afraid of Doris Bither’s story is also what ultimately made its stars, Heather Graham ( Suitable Flesh, They Will Kill You ) and Mimi Rogers (Night Nurse, Ginger Snaps), say yes too.

“I thought it was really terrifying,” Graham said of the script. “I was really scared. Horror is so big, and it reminded me of just being haunted by my own thoughts, like, ‘Thank God I’ve never been haunted by whatever, like a demon.’ But the idea of it felt like a universal, relatable, scary thing. Then when I talked to Nick, he was just such a cinephile. You knew everything about every movie. Obviously, you seem very lovely and kind. When you’re making a scary movie, you want to feel like you have this empathetic person there that wants to tell the story in a way that’s really pro-woman, which [Nick Simon] is.”

Rogers agrees, “I thought the script was really scary, but I was also fascinated by the idea that it was based on things that had actually happened. And that Doris Bither was a real woman who had these real experiences and that there was this parapsychology department at UCLA. I did a lot of reading about it because I honestly wasn’t familiar, but I’m a big fan of horror movies that have an emotional core and that are a story as opposed to just blood and guts and gore. There’s been so many brilliant ones mentioned: The Shining, The Omen, The Exorcist, and Sinners, my favorite movie of the last five years easily. So I was actually quite excited to come on board.”

“Also, the idea of a woman not being believed and that was a central part of the story, I thought that was cool,” Graham adds.

Graham leads as Doris Bither, while Rogers plays Dr. Lillian Ross, the sole woman and leader of the parapsychology department. As such, the characters form a special bond forged by, well, the men’s skepticism toward Doris’s harrowing plight.

Both actresses acknowledge a lot of that bond was easy to tap into and already well formed on the page. Rogers also pulled from experience: “Nick and Tom, the screenwriter, were very collaborative. I had the freedom in some of the scenes that I have with Doris; I had the freedom to sort of expound upon or clarify certain ideas. It’s a subtle element that Dr. Ross had a daughter who’s no longer with her. So I think, I’m a mother, I have a very strong maternal instinct and it definitely played into my feelings for Doris.”

Unlike The Entity, Simon gives his paranormal menace an actual form, one inspired by his own nightmares. “I had a weird dream about being bitten by a man with baby teeth,” Simon reveals. “I don’t know why. I woke up, I’m like, ‘That’s got to go into something.’ Anyway, so I ended up talking to my friend Mario Torres, who’s a creature designer, worked for Guillermo del Toro, and he’s done amazing things. I told him about it; he was like, ‘I’ll sculpt that.’ Then, randomly, it came to the design of Mr. Whosit, and I had just read No Country for Old Men again, and I started thinking about Anton Chigurh, how much I love that hair in the movie. I’m a huge Coen Brothers nerd. And it’s like, ‘Well, it’s 1974. Well, if we had an Anton Chigurh kind of vibe with black eyes and then baby teeth.”

Don’t expect to see Mr. Whosit much, though. “We were really deliberate. We had to plan everything, and I was trying to build as much dread in the film. Another thing we were really trying to do was stay with Doris. It’s her movie; we want to stay with her the entire movie. We really wanted to try to focus on the PTSD angle of it. That’s why there are a lot of moments where she’s just by herself in her own head, because when she’s with her kids, she’s trying to be a mom and trying to focus on that. Hopefully it comes across.”

What Happened to Doris? made its world premiere at Fantastic Fest (our review), with release info TBD.

Everyone’s entitled to a scare on Halloween, and the Halloween Attraction Association is in the business of delivering as many as possible throughout the season.

The HAA represents professional haunted attraction owners,  operators, designers, vendors, enthusiasts, and artists who have turned the business of fright into a multi-million dollar industry with its own trade shows, experts, suppliers, magazines, educational seminars, and events. It’s an organization dedicated to all the haunt attraction owners and enthusiasts, many of whom spend millions of dollars on state-of-the-art special effects,  audio-animatronic creatures, Hollywood-quality makeup and masks,  costumes, lighting gear, sound equipment, and other products to ensure their customers have a frightful experience.

So much so that it’s directly inspired the horror genre itself. Not only is Halloween-set horror popular this time of year, but one of the holiday’s most popular pastimes – haunted attractions- has also directly inspired the genre and served as an immersive backdrop to the terror. Many were even filmed in actual working haunted attractions.

The best October pairing may arguably be visiting a local haunt then relaxing with a horror movie. Find yours today!

This Halloween, we’re saluting the HAA and our local haunts with five horror movies set in haunted attractions.

Haunt

haunt

A college co-ed group looking for thrills and chills find themselves instead fighting for their lives when they enter a Halloween haunt in Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’ (Heretic, 65) Halloween slasher movie. The haunt and its masked killers are the main attractions in this visually inventive slasher. Gorgeous, crisp cinematography that highlights the production design and great killer masks that evoke retro Ben Cooper, Inc. style costumes elevate the simple setup of this straightforward holiday-themed affair. And Beck and Woods certainly don’t skimp on the gore when it comes to culling this unlucky herd one by one.

Hell Fest

Gregory Plotkin’s Halloween slasher sees a masked killer using a Halloween scream park as his slaying grounds, committing murder in plain sight under the guise of Halloween fun. That’s bad news for the group of friends targeted by the psycho; the patrons think their terror is all part of the event. Hell Fest uses a requisite holiday pastime- the haunt attraction- as the center stage for this slasher that seeks to retool the definition of “Final Girl.” Plotkin delivers a no frills slasher without any meta layers, putting the Halloween revelry front and center. Hell Fest features costumes, props, and scare actors from Netherworld Haunted House, one of the nation’s largest haunts, for that added Halloween authenticity. It was also filmed at Six Flags White Water during the off season, converted into the film’s Scream Park.

Hell House LLC

Terror Films Hell House LLC

A group of friends works to transform an old hotel into a Halloween haunt attraction in time for the season. An unexplained accident on their first night in business results in 15 attendees and staff members’ tragic deaths. Over a decade later, a documentary crew ventures there to answer what happened on that fateful night. Written and directed by Stephen Cognetti, this faux-documentary style horror movie brings tons of thrills and chills. The maze-like setup of the home and the subtle details enhance the spooky tone of this movie. This place is seriously haunted, and it’ll instill a deep fear of clowns. It was also filmed in an actual haunted attraction: Waldorf Estate of Fear.

The Houses October Built

THE HOUSES OCTOBER BUILT

A group of friends who are traveling to Halloween haunted houses all over the country in search of something truly scary finds more than they bargained for in this found footage horror movie. It’s atmospheric and immersive in the realm of Halloween haunts, made more so in that director Bobby Roe shot at real haunted attractions across Texas and Louisiana to lend a real documentary feel to the horror. Diehard haunt fanatics can look for The 13th Floor, House of Torment, TerrorPlex, and more to serve as set pieces of terror. While it ends on a rather anticlimactic note, The Houses October Built yielded two sequels.

Ghoulies II

For those seeking fun over scares this Halloween season, this sequel expands its tiny demonic chaos to a carnival, where they take up residence in the haunted funhouse attraction “Satan’s Den.” That it takes place almost entirely within the haunt means a sequel that emphasizes practical effects and its setting, of which the Ghoulies make full use. Ghoulies II was written by Stuart Gordon’s long-time writing partner, Dennis Paoli (Re-Animator, From Beyond), and directed by Albert Band (Robot Wars). It stars Phil Fondacaro (Willow, Troll), Sasha Jenson (Halloween 4, Dazed and Confused), and Royal Dano (The Dark Half, Killer Klowns From Outer Space) as the humans encountering the wacky ghoulies’ shenanigans set in a carnival attraction that evokes childhood nostalgia and spooky fun.

HAA features a 1,200-member network of haunted attractions, giving you plenty of options worth visiting this season.

New darkly whimsical talk show Your Dearest Darkest Friend is headed to Screambox this Halloween, and host Ted Raimi will be joined by a cast of puppets glimpsed in the first images. Today we can reveal the special collaboration behind those puppets.

Your Dearest Darkest Friend debuts on October 30 and features a special collaboration with The Last Podcast on the Left, who lend their voices to the colorful supporting cast of puppets. Check out behind-the-scenes images below featuring the podcast hosts and their puppet counterparts.

Last Podcast on the Left co-host Ed Larson is starring as Ted’s co-host, Mortimer Dustworth, a re-animated head in a jar that has a love-hate relationship with Ted. Henry Zebrowski, Marcus Parks, and long-time Last Podcast collaborator Holden McNeely (host of the Nerd of Mouth Podcast on the Last Podcast Network) will make special guest star cameos throughout the season as other characters and puppets.

Holden McNeely also serves as the show’s lead writer. The puppet characters are created and puppeteered by award-winning filmmaker Matt Cunningham and his company Groovy Monsters.

Ratthew and Mortimer

In Your Dearest Darkest Friend, Raimi welcomes celebrity guests into his haunted manor for an evening of confabulation, cocktails, and the presence of an uncanny creature or two… Joined by his puppet companions, Raimi takes viewers on a delightfully dreadful journey into the minds of some of the biggest names in horror—with a twisted sensibility only Ted Raimi can deliver.

“Ted and I just clicked from a comedy perspective, which made this one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had on a job. My favorite note from him after I turned in my first round of rough scripts was, “make it darker.” After that, I knew we were full speed ahead. The entire team was a blast to work with. Matt the puppeteer and I became fast friends, and everybody on set wanted to talk horror and joke around all day long, including our fabulous directors Tony and Charlie. It was like a horror comedy summer camp, and I’ve missed it ever since. I’ve been working with close friends for my entire career at Last Podcast Network, and it was such a treat to bring Henry, Marcus, and Eddie from Last Podcast on the Left into the project. It seemed they too quickly felt in sync with the Dearest Darkest Friends team. Hail Ted Raimi!” said Holden McNeely.

Ed Larson added, “It was an honor to be a small part of ‘Dearest Darkest Friend!’ Holden McNeely’s writing was to die for, and now my plan is finally in motion to get my house back from that dirty scoundrel Ted Raimi. He is a bastard of the highest order. GIVE ME BACK MY HOUSE, TED!!!!”

“We are proud to be a part of Ted Raimi’s vision. The Raimi family’s body of work is foundational to LPN’s existence. Also, our long time coworker and friend Holden McNeely finally found a place for his brand of insanity outside of our little comedy world,” adds Henry Zebrowski

The collaboration brings together two distinctly beloved corners of the horror community: Raimi’s decades-long connection to the genre and the irreverent, boundary-pushing comedy of Last Podcast on the Left. The result is a twisted meeting of minds—and puppets—that promises to give horror fans something they have never seen before.

Your Dearest Darkest Friend is produced by Tony Wash, Charlie Queen, Lauren Leshansky, and Ted Raimi.

Stay tuned for the official guest lineup.

Austin Abrams and Josh Brolin star with Elisabeth Shue (“The Boys”), Jane Levy (River, Evil Dead), John Ortiz (Kong: Skull Island), and Emily Rudd (Fear Street Part Two: 1978).

I called Whalefall one of the best horror books of 2023. I wrote, “Kraus’ brisk-paced novel toggles between survival horror and an internal journey through grief in the most propulsive way possible. It results in the most pulse-pounding, fast read of the year.” It’s so intensely terrifying and well-researched that it unlocks new aquatic fears.

That means seeing it on 4DX should be a wild experience. There’s even a new 4DX poster below, along with a closer look at the Whalebucket.

It’s been a while since the announcement of 47 Meters Down: The Wreck, the third installment in the shark attack film series originated by director Johannes Roberts, but a release date may be on the horizon now that it’s received an official MPA rating.

47 Meters Down: The Wreck continues the franchise’s streak with a PG-13 rating, this time for “violent content/bloody images, peril, some strong language and smoking.”

Johannes Roberts and Ernest Riera co-wrote the upcoming third movie’s screenplay. Roberts had previously directed both 47 Meters Down and its first sequel, Uncaged. This time, the director’s baton has been passed to Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry, My Bloody Valentine 3D).

The new sequel stars Ron Livinston (Christmas at the Kringles, The Conjuring), Bo Bragason (The Legend of Zelda, Censor), and Sadie Stanley (Karate Kid: Legends).

The story will follow a father who is determined to rebuild his relationship with his daughter as they bond during a scuba dive in beautiful tropical waters while exploring a famous shipwreck. Of course, this is a 47 Meters Down movie, so an accident leaves them trapped and with oxygen running out.

“47 Meters Down: The Wreck is the perfect continuation of our shark-filled franchise,” said producer Byron Allen previously, who is the founder/chairman/CEO of Allen Media Group. “This film will once again have moviegoers terrified and on the edge of their seats.”

Roberts promises the third entry will be the series‘ scariest. “We can’t wait for audiences to be trapped underwater with us again,” added Roberts. “47 Meters Down: The Wreck is going to be the biggest, most-intense film of this franchise.”

The original 47 Meters Down, which trapped sisters in the water with hungry sharks, scared up $62 million at the box office, while 47 Meters Down: Uncaged took the franchise to an underwater cave system and managed to end its worldwide box office run with $47.5 million.

With 47 Meters Down: The Wreck announced in 2024, a release date and trailer should be arriving soon. Stay tuned.

Oscar-winning Jennifer Lawrence has officially been set to star in the sci-fi movie The Flood, from writer-director Zach Cregger (Barbarian, Weapons), Deadline reports today.

New Line/Warner Bros. will release The Flood in theaters August 11, 2028, with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment producing.

Plot details are scarce, but Cregger did warn in his recent Reddit AMA not to expect full-blown horror compared to his previous films: “Flood is not quite as horror central as the other movies (altho it might be the most unsettling) and it does have horror moments and aspects.”

One Cregger signature will continue, though: his unique approach to narrative structure. He told Deadline that The Flood “is another movie that is structurally bizarre. Like Barbarian and Weapons, it doesn’t jump perspective, but it structurally is, I think, dexterous.”

“Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most gifted and compelling actors working today, and we are thrilled to have her at the center of Zach’s bold and wholly original vision for The Flood. Following our extraordinary experience together on Weapons, we could not be more excited to reunite with Zach and the team at Vertigo, as well as Amblin to bring this ambitious film to audiences around the world,” said Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, co-chairs of Warner Bros. Entertainment.

Said Cregger, “Mike, Pam and the whole Warner Bros./New Line team were an absolute dream to collaborate with on Weapons, and I couldn’t be happier to dive in with them again. Jennifer is one of a kind, and I’m beyond excited to see her in this role.“

What exactly that role entails remains a mystery for now, but Cregger considers this his most disturbing yet so chances are Lawrence’s character will be put through the wringer. Lawrence’s genre credits include Mother!, House at the End of the Street, and the upcoming What Happens At Night.

Stay tuned.

After dominating the box office with theatrical debut Obsession, writer/director Curry Barker is leaning more into humor with horror comedy follow-up Anything But Ghosts.

Anything But Ghosts will release in theaters on May 7, 2027.

Barker directs from a script he co-wrote with longtime creative partner Cooper Tomlinson (Milk & Serial). The duo also stars as wannabe ghost hunters who must face real ghosts while dealing with the deception of their own fraudulent business.

“It’s all going to feel like the same brand,” Barker previously told Bloody Disgusting. “It’s slightly different. It’s so different than Obsession, because the idea itself just lends itself better to comedy, because it’s literally about two ghost hunter con artists.”

Barker said of the film’s tone, “It’s Cooper and me doing our thing, so it lends itself better to comedy, but it’s still set in this super grounded world. It’s ghosts being real in a world where ghosts are not real. Just like [Obsession] is a wish going wrong in a movie where magic doesn’t exist or in a world where magic doesn’t exist, right? That’s kind of what I try to do.”

Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”), Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World), Chris Reinacher (“Superstore”), and Violet McGraw (M3GAN) also star in Anything But Ghosts.

Blumhouse’s Jason Blum produces with Roy Lee & Steven Schneider of Spooky Pictures (Hokum) and Adam Hendricks & Greg Gilreath of Divide/Conquer (M3GAN). Executive producers include Barker & Tomlinson for That’s a Bad Idea and Ben Ross for Image Nation (Late Night with the Devil).

Anything But Ghosts will also be set in the same universe as Obsession, with direct reference to what happens to Nikki.

Tommy Wiseau (Big Shark) terrorizes in the first trailer, images, and poster for horror movie Silt, formerly titled Lake Vernon, arriving in theaters this fall.

Former NFL star turned filmmaker Vernon Davis (The Ritual Killer) produces and stars in the film alongside Malcolm Goodwin (“Reacher”), David Anders (“The Vampire Diaries”), Olivia Grace Applegate (“Love and Death”), Andrea Sixtos (“Arrow”), and Tommy Wiseau.

The ensemble cast—which also includes Michael Papajohn, Isaiah LaBorde, and Ledger LaBorde—will hit the road in October and November for a series of special screenings across the country, with stops planned in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta, New Orleans, Austin, and Dallas. Fans can request screenings in their cities by visiting https://demandthescreen.com/demand-the-screen.

In the film, “Hadria (Sixtos), a woman haunted by guilt she cannot explain, is talked into a weekend at an exclusive lakeside sanctuary by her best friend Sierra (Applegate) and Sierra’s boyfriend Scott (Anders). She has never warmed to the hosts, Rick (Goodwin) and Anna (Smitha), but she goes for a shot at something with Mike Warner (Davis), a pro athlete sidelined by a knee injury. The property sits behind three locked gates, where hundreds of deer assemble, watching. The lake comes with lore, the kind that makes a good firepit story, and Bartleby (Wiseau), the eccentric owner, tells them it carries the genes of the Gods. Hadria doesn’t buy any of it, right up until the water starts proving Bartleby right.“

Not only does Davis star and produce, but Silt is adapted from a story by Davis and Tiffany Toney. The story was adapted for the screen by director Aaron Jay Rome and writer/producer Isaiah LaBorde.

Rome said, “Silt presented an interesting opportunity to explore the things we do—and don’t—tell the people closest to us. On its face, it has all the makings of the familiar cabin-in-the-woods trope, but I was interested in subverting that expectation by bringing something cosmic and universal into what could otherwise feel like a recycled idea. At its core, it’s a movie about the unreliability of the human mind, the Monkey’s Paw effect of things that appear miraculous on the surface but carry consequences unknowable to us, and the lengths we’ll go to get something we desperately want.”

He added, “I’m eager for audiences to predict where the movie is going, be inevitably wrong, and then immediately tell their friends and family they need to see it too. It’s a lot of fun, the performances are incredible, and more than anything, I hope it leads to long conversations on the drive home from the theater.”

The Opening Night film at this year’s Sitges Film Festival is Found Alive, the first English-language feature from Carlota Pereda (Piggy), and a new image gives a first look at lead Chloë Grace Moretz. as the former captive of a sadistic killer.

Grace-Moretz stars alongside Rupert Friend (Companion), Keith Jardine (Over Your Dead Body), Thomas Cocquerel (Escape Room: Tournament of Champions), and Scott Haze (Jurassic World: Dominion).

In Found Alive, “Ten years after escaping a sadistic captor as a teenager, Reeve LeClaire (Moretz) agrees to mentor a newly rescued survivor. When the girl’s story points to other missing victims, Reeve enters a deadly game of cat-and-mouse to find them before it’s too late.”

The psychological thriller is written by Matt Venne (“Dexter: Resurrection,” White Noise 2: The Light) with revisions by Lori Evans Taylor (Final Destination: Bloodlines) and Carlota Pereda, and based on the 2013 novel The Edge of Normal by true crime author Carla Norton. The Edge of Normal is also the former title of Found Alive.

Sitges calls the film “a fast-paced survival thriller masterfully filmed by the director of Piggy.”

No stranger to horror, Moretz’s genre credits include Carrie, The Amityville Horror, Let Me In, Suspiria, Greta, and Dark Shadows.

Found Alive is produced by Nate Bolotin, Guy Danella, Matt Miller, Andrew Deane, and Ava Jamshidi. Executive producers include Nick Spicer, Aram Tertzakian, Maxime Cottray, Timo Argillander, Andrea Scarso, Matthew Helderman, Luke Taylor, Sean Krajewski, Kate Cohen, Manuel Molina, Gary Michael Walters, Erich Ebner, Adrián Guerra, Carlota Pereda, Natalie Metzger, and Núria Valls.

The twisty thriller makes its world premiere on October 8 at Sitges.

While most people run from Michael Myers, Voodoo Ranger is embarking on a Slasher Manhunt, a search for real people legally named Michael Myers. They just want to buy him a beer.

A year’s worth, to be exact.

The nationwide search is open to anyone 21 and older in the US who can legally prove their name is Michael Myers. Eligible participants can enter for the chance to receive cash for a year’s supply of Voodoo Ranger beer along with a copy of Halloween: The Game.

Slasher Manhunt will culminate in New York City on October 7 with Party Without Fear, a Halloween activation created in partnership with Halloween: The Game. Real-life Michael Myerses will be invited to Ray’s on the Lower East Side to show a valid ID for a special reward, while guests can enjoy Slasher IPA, game demos and exclusive giveaways.

“Being named Michael Myers has come with enough baggage, so we’re here with the beer,” said Kiron Chakraborty, Marketing Director of Voodoo Ranger. “We’re rewarding real Michael Myerses with a year’s supply of Voodoo Ranger because Halloween deserves to be celebrated, not endured. And when it comes to Halloween, there’s no better beer than Voodoo Ranger.“

Voodoo Ranger will reveal select winners and share their stories on October 19, Michael Myers’ birthday.

To enter, eligible Michael Myerses can visit https://www.voodooranger.com/contests/halloween.

Available in stores now, Voodoo Ranger has released a 12-pack titled the Halloween Hoppy Pack, and exclusive to the limited-time pack is a Slasher IPA featuring Michael Myers. Slasher IPA is Voodoo Ranger’s collaboration beer for the Halloween: The Game partnership, and you can only find it in the Hoppy Pack until supplies run out.

There are three cans of the citrusy Slasher IPA in the Halloween Hoppy Pack, along with three cans each of Voodoo Ranger IPA, Voodoo Ranger Imperial IPA, and Citrus Slayer IPA.

Slasher IPA is a 7.5% ABV beer. Drink (and slash) responsibly.

Find a Halloween Hoppy Pack near you on Voodoo Ranger’s website.

At first glance, Play House joins the wave of horror movies that transform kids’ shows and their mascots into nightmare fuel. But the feature debut by director Nicolas Curcio instead uses childhood terror as the foundation of an unsettling home invasion.

Also setting Play House apart, at least at Fantastic Fest, is that Curcio’s debut, which he co-writes with Kirby Gladstein, is also the inaugural Fantastic Fest pitch contest winner; Curcio and Gladstein’s pitch at last year’s event earned them $100,000 to make this movie.

In Play House, Will Harrison stars as Elliot, a young man renovating his newly purchased, crumbling home who discovers VHS tapes of an unaired TV show in the basement. Those tapes uncover a dark history, one that threatens to destroy his life.

Inspiration came close to home for the writing pair. Gladstein tells Bloody Disgusting of the film’s origins, “We lived in South Pasadena in LA, and we were constantly walking and driving past this stretch of dozens of homes that were all abandoned and had security guys outside, and they were just falling into disrepair. We looked into it, and it was this freeway expansion project that started back in the ’50s and ’60s, where they bought close to 400-500 houses, and then they never built the freeway. So they just held onto these houses, and we started to wonder what could have happened in these houses for this many decades that they’ve sat, and started to think about somebody buying one of those houses because they’re starting to sell the actual Caltrans houses now. That was really the impetus of it.”

The house is an important character in the film, of course, but just as important are the tapes and the creepy show on them. The more Elliot watches, the more the show’s host, Mr. Morton (James Urbaniak), disturbs.

A still from the horror movie 'Play House' review

Curcio keeps the show and its unforgettable puppet characters, of which the cast and filmmakers unanimously cite Grinner as their favorite, to a minimum to build tension. The director walks us through the design process in creating Mr. Morton’s show: “We made a proof of concept video, sort of a short film that we also showed when we applied for the competition. So we had the design a little bit. We had a temporary kind of Sesame Street-y backdrop, but our production designer did a much cooler backdrop. But yeah, since we had the proof of concept, we kind of knew the aesthetic.”

As for casting his Mr. Morton, Curcio tells us, “I’m so familiar with [Urbaniak’s] work, but I think the person needed to be a great actor. It needed to be specific. I just wanted somebody who would take it seriously. I think in the beginning we were like, ‘What if it gets too comedic? Or what if an actor who’s comedic decides to play it a certain way?’ It just ended up being the right choice because James took it so seriously in the best way possible. That’s why it works so well in the film.”

For Urbaniak, whose character gets limited screen time, there’s a lot more bubbling behind the surface of Mr. Morton: “There already was a backstory suggested in the script and based on how you conceived of it where the character has a connection to these old houses. Then it’s just about making everything he does on screen personal. A villain doesn’t think that he’s a villain. A villain is just trying to accomplish something. Maybe a villain even thinks they’re doing something good. So it’s just kind of coming at it from that angle. He’s serious about what he’s doing, and maybe he has a moral imperative, even though it’s completely twisted.”

Mr. Morton unsettles as much as his tortured puppets do in Play House, which also pays tribute to Monkey’s Magic Merry Go Round, a move acknowledging the shared crew between films rather than a nod to a similar film in a niche but growing subgenre.

As for Gladstein and Curcio, the pair have already lined up erotic thriller Sweet Spot for Paramount Primal.

Guillermo del Toro’s masterpiece Pan’s Labyrinth heads back to theaters next week in 3D and 4K, reintroducing audiences to unforgettable characters like the Faun and the Pale Man, both played by genre stalwart Doug Jones.

Ahead of the film’s release in theaters October 9, Bloody FM’s The Boo Crew podcast caught up with Doug Jones for an insightful look back at his career and the many collaborations with del Toro dating back to Mimic.

Though Jones has appeared in six of del Toro’s films, it’s his dual performance in the filmmaker’s dark fantasy film that stands apart, even if del Toro had to slightly trick him to take on the film.

Jones revealed to the Boo Crew that del Toro initially gave him a screenplay in English: “I was terrified when he was offered it to me. He sent me the script in English and, ‘Read this, get back to me by tonight.‘ So I read this most beautiful script I’d ever read in my life, right? I’m wiping tears away as I close the last page like, ‘I have to be in this movie.‘ I emailed him back saying, ‘Oh my gosh, thank you so much. You’ll never know what this means to me.‘ ‘Great. It’s going to be in Spanish.‘ So I told him he got the wrong guy and there’s no way I can possibly learn paragraphs of exposition dialogue as the font in a language I don’t speak.“

“I got a translation in English, and it was beautifully worded,” Jones clarifies. “He must have done the translation himself because he’s so poetic in both languages. So, it’s going to be in Spanish? I told him surely there’s a Spanish actor that can pull this off, and he’s going to be filming in Spain and I was going to be the only American miles around. His answer was, ‘Nope, you can count to 10 for all I care. I’ll dub over it later, but you have to play the Faun.“

Pan's Labyrinth Trailer

There was no way Jones would take that shortcut, though, and committed to the film’s language demands. “I want to give her the language that she can respond to. So I buckled down, and I had an English and Spanish translation of the script side by side, and I broke down the sentence structure. I had two years of Spanish in high school, and some of the grammar and sentence structure came back to me, and I did it all without a coach, and I was able to deliver the dialogue on set when it came.“

While Jones brings the Faun to life on screen through his voice and physicality, the actor also gives the makeup and creature FX team credit for the tricky work accomplished on the film. For those revisiting the film on the big screen, Jones notes to pay attention to the Faun’s subtle transformation throughout the film.

“The faun, I guess he was working off the mythical Pan, but he never mentioned Pan in the actual movie. It’s in the title, the English title, but the Spanish title is Le Berinto del Fano, the Labyrinth of the Faun. Pan is only mentioned in the English title and never anywhere else in the movie. He’s a keeper of the underworld, and he said he wanted me to play the ambiguity. Is he good? Is he evil? We don’t know yet. Don’t reveal it yet. He gave me notes that every time you see the fawn, he’s going to be aging backwards. So when you go back and see the movie again, my first appearance, I’m older and more gray with stormy, cloudy eyes, and one of my horns is eaten off at the end.

“Every time you see me, I’ll get a little bit more colorful, a little bit more pristine.“

“My movement then went from rickety to more smooth by the end as well. So aging backwards in a film and you’re filming it out of sequence, mind you, so you never know what scene you’re on, what day, with lots to keep track of.“

The actor also recalls the practical effects regarding his second character in the film, the child-eating Pale Man. While that creature is also practical, the Pale Man’s devouring of fairies was digital. Yet it still required some gruesome practical trickery from Jones on set.

“This is going to be disgusting,” Jones warns. “The digital effects people were on set guiding us through how this was going to work because they had to paint those fairies in later. Well, to help them get the bite, stretch, and explosion of blood, they filled two condoms with fake blood that I had to act like I was catching, catching, and then bite, stretch until it burst, and then bite and stretch until. Now I’ll tell you, condoms don’t taste delicious.

“I was actually welcoming the blood spurting out because it was at least corn syrup and sweet. It sweetened up the flavor a little bit. But yeah, del Toro gave me notes as the Pale Man to be originally when we first talked about it, to be gangly and disjointed and bounding down a hallway after her. We’re rehearsing that scene once we’re out of the table chamber and then down the hallway when she’s trying to make her final escape out of my chamber. She’s running, and we did a rehearsal, and I’m going gallopy, gallopy, gallopy, knees and elbows everywhere. He goes, ‘No, Dougie.‘ As though we had never had that talk. He says, ‘No, no, no. More like a George Romero zombie.‘ ‘Oh, well that’s a little different, isn’t it?‘ So that’s why when you see that Pale Man sequence, you’ll see, yes, I was stiffened up and more step, step, step. That slower chase was way scarier than galloping after.“

Pan’s Labyrinth will be presented theatrically for the first time by Cineverse and Fathom in 4K, and with versions available in both 3D and HDR by Barco – the dedicated HDR viewing solution offering up to 6 times higher peak luminance.

Grab your tickets from AMC Theatres, Regal, Fandango, and Fathom Entertainment, and listen to the full episode below.

Killer hippo horror movie Hungry is headed after making a splash on the big screen and Digital earlier this summer.

Look for Hungry to arrive on Prime Video on October 1.

A wildly unofficial adaptation of Hungry Hungry Hippos, horror movie Hungry follows thrill-seeking tourists on a riverboat tour through the treacherous Louisiana swamplands. Lured off the beaten path by the promise of an exclusive adventure, they soon find themselves fighting for survival against a ravenous hippopotamus lurking beneath the bayou’s murky waters.

Madison Davenport (It’s What’s Inside), Tracey Bonner (Greenland), Michel Curiel (“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law”), Jim Meskimen (“Parks and Recreation”), Samantha Coughlan (Arcadian), Olivia Bernstone (Fighting with My Family), River Codack (“Happy Face”), and Joaquim de Almeida (Desperado) star.

James Nunn (Shark Bait, One Shot) writes and directs the UK production.

Hungry features makeup effects designed by Dan Martin (Infinity Pool, Color Out of Space), with special effects supervised by Kenneth Cassar of Extreme Effects (The Last Voyage of the Demeter, Jurassic World: Dominion) and visual effects from Magic Dust VFX (“True Detective: Night Country,” “One Piece”).

Ben Jacques (The Strangers: Prey at Night) of Signature Entertainment produces. Executive producers include Marc Goldberg, Sarah Gabriel, David Sullivan, Gareth Williams, and Ella Field.

Rob Hunter wrote in his review, “Characters are grounded and engaging, the film moves well between suspense, character beats, and action, and the effects used to bring the hippo to life are highly effective and never feel like distractions. Drop those expectations of a Hungry Hungry Hippo romp, and settle in for a terrific little survival thriller about an angry, angry hippo instead.”

A new series adaptation of Skybound Comics’ Stillwater was greenlit in July, and Variety reports that it’s finally found its lead in The Conjuring: Last Rites breakout Ben Hardy.

Greg Berlanti (You, The Flight Attendant) and Carly Wray (Watchmen, Westworld) are leading the charge on the upcoming horror-drama series from Amazon MGM Studios, based on the comic from creators Chip Zdarsky and Ramón K Pérez.

The official logline describes a “mind-bending horror thriller that focuses on ex-con Daniel West (Hardy). When Daniel receives a mysterious letter promising answers about his past and a substantial inheritance in the small town of Stillwater, he discovers a community where nothing ever ages, no one ever dies, and nobody ever gets out.”

Wray and Berlanti co-wrote the pilot episode and executive produce the upcoming series.

“We’ve been fans of Ben’s for a long time, and we’re thrilled to get to tell this story together,” said Berlanti and Wray. “There’s a toughness to him, but also something incredibly open and soulful underneath it. Daniel needs both. From the moment we saw Ben in the role, it was impossible to imagine anyone else.”

Hardy played Tony Spera, who aspires to marry Ed and Lorraine Warren’s daughter Judy in the newest installment of the Conjuring franchise. His credits also include Mary Shelley and X-Men: Apocalypse.

“Stillwater is a truly original series that blends horror, mystery, and psychological suspense into something entirely unexpected,” said Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television, Amazon MGM Studios. “Greg Berlanti, Carly Wray, and the incredible teams at WBTV and Skybound have created a world unlike anything audiences have seen before—one that’s unsettling, emotionally rich, and impossible to look away from. We’re thrilled to bring this remarkable story to Prime Video audiences around the world.”

The comic series was first published in September 2020 and concluded in January 2023.

Prime Video gave the series an eight-episode order. The series comes from Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, and Skybound Entertainment.

Filming has wrapped on the It Follows sequel, They Follow, and Deadline has revealed that Landman and The Endless actor James Jordan is part of the cast.

Naturally, plot and character details remain shrouded in secrecy, though the sequel is said to pick up a decade after the events of the previous film. Actor Maika Monroe is returning for the follow-up, along with returning director-writer David Robert Mitchell.

Disasterpiece is also confirmed to be crafting the sequel’s score.

Starring in the new sequel are Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice), Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children, A Nightmare on Elm Street), Justine Lupe (Succession), Anna Mirodin (Ivan), Jayne Taini (Unbelievable), Michael Gandolfini (Daredevil: Born Again), Tom Pecinka (Stereophonic), Melora Walters (Magnolia), Ben Krieger (Song Sung Blue), Natalie Shinnick (The Brutalist), and Jan Hoag (The Fabelmans).

In the first movie, Maika Monroe’s Jay Height is a young woman followed by an unknown supernatural force after a sexual encounter. In the sequel, the threat spreads everywhere.

“It’s very dark,” Monroe recently teased. “We’re pushing the boundaries on this one for sure.”

“It’s very different from the original,” Monroe told Discussing Film. “The original is a little more heightened and dramatic, and this is really quite grounded and follows the story of these two women that are mentally dealing with a lot. I thought it was really an interesting take on it.”

Monroe also stars in the upcoming horror-comedy Victorian Psycho, while this summer saw the release of Mitchell’s big-budget dinosaur spectacle The End of Oak Street.

They Follow has yet to announce a release date, so stay tuned.

Oscar-nominated Lily Gladstone (Killers Of The Flower Moon) and Kiowa Gordon (Dark Winds, Blood Quantum) have been set to star in the horror western The Curse of Silver, Deadline reports today.

The pair both previously starred in Quantum Cowboys and will reunite with its director, Geoff Marslett, on The Curse of Silver. Marslett will co-direct with Gordon.

The movie is set on the “lawless Texas-Mexico border in the aftermath of the Civil War, the film follows two Union deserters who drag a cursed chest of Confederate silver into a besieged town, unwittingly unleashing supernatural violence.”

The screenplay was written by Geoff Marslett and Rafael A. Ruiz.

That’s not a lot to go on at this time, and a production start date hasn’t been set yet.

Liz Cardenas (A Ghost Story) and Ram Getz (Sunny) are producing; Gladstone, Gordon, and Michael Mortensen serve as executive producers.

The Curse of Silver is among the 80 projects selected for the 2026 Gotham Week Project Market, running September 27–October 3 in Brooklyn, so expect to hear more about it soon.

A documentary team finds more than they bargained for in supernatural chiller The Dark Gets In, set to make its world premiere later this week.

The Dark Gets In will make its Beyond Fest World Premiere on October 2, 2026.

The plot sees “a documentary team set out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a young girl, but events soon take an unexpected turn, leading the filmmakers down an increasingly dark and horrifying path.”

The horror movie, as Beyond Fest describes, is designed to make you sleep with the lights on. It’s written and directed by Sean Hogan (The Devil’s Business, Little Deaths), and produced by Evrim Ersoy.

In a statement, Hogan said: “The Dark Gets In is based upon an idea I had several years ago, but it wasn’t until I hit upon the notion of telling it in a true crime mockumentary format that it finally found its proper expression. We set out to make a film that initially felt very real and disturbing, but would eventually reveal itself to be something far more horrifying than the sort of story you typically see in such documentaries. The end result is, I hope, a mixture of tragedy and tension and slow-burning dread, and I’m excited to see how audiences respond to its many shocks and surprises.”

Ersoy added: “After the success of To Fire You Come At Last, another opportunity to work with Sean was only natural – and with The Dark Gets In, he has crafted a singularly unique film that delivers on the promise of its eerie atmosphere and will hopefully scare audiences around the world with its unique blend of the supernatural and true crime.”

Blue Finch Films has boarded sales rights to The Dark Gets In ahead of its debut, so stay tuned for distribution and release date announcements as they arrive.

After earning the Cheval Noir Award at Fantasia earlier this summer, Deadline reports that Altered Innocence has acquired the supernatural gothic romance No Rest for the Wicked.

No Rest for the Wicked will continue its festival run, with Altered Innocence eyeing a theatrical release in 2027.

Set on the Faroe Islands in 1862, the film follows “a young fisherman whose isolated life is transformed by the arrival of Helge (Pilou Asbæk), a rugged Danish whaler. As a forbidden attraction grows between the two men, tragedy unleashes supernatural forces upon their deeply religious community. Baldur and Helge’s passion gives rise to a haunting tale of love that refuses to die.”

The horror movie is written by Rasmus Birch, directed by Kasper Kalle, and stars Pilou Asbæk (Overlord, Game of Thrones), Egor Venned, Sofia Nolsøe Mikkelsen, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson and Kjartan Hansen.

No Rest for the Wicked is inspired by Karl Heinrich Ulrichs’ 1885 short story Manor, published before Bram Stoker’s seminal 1897 novel, Dracula.

“I’ve always had a huge love for queer horror, so it’s especially exciting to get to release one that operates at this level,” said Altered Innocence founder Frank Jaffe. “No Rest For The Wicked is a stunning, sexy and deeply romantic gothic tale that I can’t wait for fans to sink their teeth into!”

Joe Lipsett wrote in his 4-skull Fantasia review, “Writer/director Kasper Kalle has crafted a beautiful and atmospheric supernatural romance that capitalizes on the beauty of the Faroe Islands. Seriously, the scenery is so stunning that large swaths of the movie play like an advertisement for the tourism board. Aside from being gorgeous to look at, the film lives and dies based on the relationship between Baldur and Helge, which is romantic and forbidden in the film’s first half and melancholy and tragic in the back half.“

Ticks are back in the body horror business with Tick Fever, an absurdist horror movie in development from writer-director Sebastian Granskog and producer Mia Palmgren.

“Every Finn has learned to live in fear of ticks since the summers of their childhood. It’s a tiny insect that latches onto your body, breaks through your skin, starts drinking your blood and grows bigger as it takes what it wants from you,” Granskog explained to Variety in a first look that reveals concept art behind the film.

Tick Fever was presented at the Finnish Film Affair, which spotlighted similar films with Nordic Lab Genre this year.

Whereas the 1993 Brian Yuzna-produced Ticks saw the parasitic bloodsuckers mutate via steroids, unleashing goopy body horror, Tick Fever is applying a more grounded metaphor.

In Tick Fever, “Years into being together, a co-dependent couple’s relationship starts crumbling due to a suspected tick bite. As Victor spirals into anxiety over his alleged bite mark, Stella pulls away, burying herself in her work. Victor’s anxiety starts manifesting itself as a giant, bloodthirsty tick, pushing the couple further from each other. When Victor notices Stella is also being slowly devoured by a tick similar to his own, he realizes the anxiety and fear keeping them together is the very thing that’s killing them.“

In other words, it’s a body horror film centered on a relationship past its expiration date.

Actors Elias Salonen (“Kalevala: The Story of Kullervo”) and Anna Böhm (“Valhalla Project”) portray the doomed couple in the first concept art for the film, above and below.

Like the ’93 creature feature, Granskog wants to make Tick Fever utilizing practical effects. “As a horror fan, gore has me giggling in my seat when I’m watching a movie. I would love to make this film with practical effects. I hope we can accomplish that, at least mostly,” he tells Variety.

“Sebastian brilliantly balances horror, relationship drama and social satire in this film, and the world he has created is horrifyingly relatable,” Palmgren adds.

Tick Fever is still in active development, so stay tuned for more as we learn it. It certainly sounds as though more horror from Norway is on the way.

The franchise’s most savage yet, Sébastien Vaniček’s Evil Dead Burn is kicking off October with its streaming debut.

The film will debut on HBO linear on October 3 at 8:00 p.m. ET, following special showings of Evil Dead (2013) at 4:45 p.m. ET and Evil Dead Rise at 6:20 p.m. ET.

After the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws in their secluded family home. As one by one they are transformed into Deadites—turning the gathering into a family reunion from hell—she comes to discover that the vows she took in life… live on even in death.

Souheila Yacoub, Tandi Wright, and Hunter Doohan lead the cast of the brand new Evil Dead movie alongside Luciane Buchanan, Errol Shand and Maude Davey.

The film is directed by Sébastien Vaniček and written by Sébastien Vaniček and Florent Bernard. It is produced by Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi. The executive producers are Bruce Campbell, Romel Adam, Sarah Spurway, Jose Cañas and Lee Cronin.

Sébastien Vaniček is joined behind the camera by director of photography Philip Lozano, production designer Nick Connor, editor Maxime Caro, makeup and effects designer Jane O’Kane, and costume designer Sarah Voon. Evil Dead Burn features music by Double Danger.

The critical reception for Evil Dead Burn was a bit less positive than the reception to Evil Dead Rise, with Rise hitting 85% on Rotten Tomatoes and Burn currently sitting at 71%. It’s interesting to note, however, that the “Popcornmeter” on Rotten Tomatoes is a bit higher for Burn than it was for Rise, with Burn‘s currently at 80% and Rise‘s sitting a tad lower at 76%.

Next installment Evil Dead Wrath has already wrapped production for an expected release in 2028.

Get ready to sing your heart out next week. Fans nationwide can experience Casper Kelly’s Buddy as never before with a special theatrical engagement of Buddy: The Sing-Along Version, featuring on-screen lyrics to all of the film’s catchy songs.

Buddy: The Sing-Along Version will release in theaters nationwide on October 2.

Audiences are encouraged to dress up, sing their hearts out and join Buddy and his friends for an immersive, one-of-a-kind theatrical experience that turns the movie into the ultimate fan event. Sing along to “It’s Buddy!,” “You’ve Got to Be Scared to Be Brave” and “The Wrong Place in Town.”

“Buddy audiences have inspired us like nothing we’ve seen before,” said Roadside Attractions Co-Presidents Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff and Saban Films Co-President Jonathan Saba. “They’re already singing and dancing in the aisles. Buddy: The Sing-Along Version is really just catching up with what these amazing fans are already doing — and we think they’re going to love it.”

Ahead of the nationwide opening, Buddy will host a special Gala Premiere on Tuesday, September 29th at the Alex Theater (216 N, Brand Blvd, Glendale, Calif.). Director Casper Kelly, actors Delaney Quinn, Madison Skyy Polan, CJ Williams and Luke Speakman and Buddy himself will attend to sing along with fans.

Buddy centers on the titular unicorn mascot — a beloved children’s TV host with a squeaky-clean persona that belies his true nature as a dark and violent force of nature.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Inside the colorful world of It’s Buddy!, a group of children spend their days singing, dancing, and helping Buddy spread happiness. But when one child refuses to play along, Buddy is not pleased and cracks begin to appear in this seemingly perfect world.”

Cristin Milioti stars as Grace, a suburban mother inadvertently drawn into Buddy’s nightmare world, with Delaney Quinn as Freddy, a brave girl who begins to fight back against Buddy when he shows his true self. Keegan-Michael Key voices Buddy. The horror movie’s cast also includes Topher Grace, Michael Shannon, and Patton Oswalt.

AMC+ has released a spellbinding trailer for Yaga, celebrating the season of the witch.

The contemporary mystery thriller reimagines the myth of Baba Yaga and is set for a two-episode premiere on October 23, exclusively in the U.S. on AMC+. New episodes will debut on Fridays, with an epic two-episode finale on November 27.

It follows Rapp (Noah Reid, The Vampire Lestat), a private investigator who arrives in the small coastal town of Whittock to investigate the disappearance of a young heir to a powerful fishery, Henry Park (Hudson Williams, Heated Rivalry). He finds himself at odds with an apprehensive local detective, Carson (Clark Backo, Venom: The Last Dance, Letterkenny), a charismatic university professor with a taste for younger men, Katherine (Carrie-Anne Moss, Matrix Films, Memento), and a labyrinth of enigmatic suspects, secret lives, and ancient magic.

AMC’s “Yaga” is based on the hit play by showrunner and writer Kat Sandler.

Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, Ezra Franky, Patrick Gilmore, Katharine Isabelle, Hiro Kanagawa, Emilija Baranac, Georgia Acken, Anisa Harris, and Sam Krochmal also star.

David Frazee (Chapelwaite, Reginald the Vampire) and Rachel Talalay (Riverdale, A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting) serve as co-directors of the AMC series.

Mackenzie Donaldson, Andrew Miller, and Carrie-Anne Moss are executive producers, and Charles Cooper is producer.

It’s one hell of a year for experimental, shocking religious horror. It’s not just Ken Russell’s The Devils receiving a theatrical 4K restoration release this year, but also the even more experimental and disturbing Begotten.

Restored in 4K from the original 16mm negative and optical soundtrack, Kino Lorber opens Begotten at the IFC Center on October 1 before it begins touring nationally.

Frequently winding up on “most disturbing” lists since its initial release in 1989, Begotten doesn’t follow a conventional plot or structure but instead centers on ritual.

God Killing Himself (Brian Salzberg), Mother Earth (Donna Dempsey) and Son of Earth-Flesh on Bone (Stephen Charles Barry) are players in a myth of primal gore, in a silent experimental film that records death and rebirth.

Kino Lorber’s synopsis reads: “The entire film is what those names do to each other and to the earth. God Killing Himself tears open his body and dies. Mother Earth rises from what remains and takes his seed into herself. She gives birth to Son of Earth — Flesh on Bone. He is cast into a barren world, seized by the Nomads, tortured, killed, and briefly returned to life by his mother. The Nomads destroy her too. The Robed Figures gather what remains of mother and son, grind their bodies down, and return them to the soil. The ground flowers.”

Begotten was written, directed, and produced by E. Elias Merhige, who would go on to helm Shadow of the Vampire and music videos for Danzig and Marilyn Manson.

Though silent and shot on 16mm using a black-and-white reversal film stock, it’s packed with disturbing imagery from the outset. The type that earned Begotten its reputation among adventurous cinephiles. It also directly influenced Panos Cosmatos’ Beyond the Black Rainbow, and films like Baskin.

A new trailer highlights Begotten’s singularity and disturbing vision ahead of the restoration’s theatrical rollout, below.

Cheetos has joined forces with Blumhouse for the launch of The Flavor of Fear this Halloween, and a new short film highlights just how scary this collab is.

The new Phantom Heat Puffs flavor hit shelves as of August 31, combining brown sugar and cinnamon with spicy, mouth-numbing Sichuan pepper. If that snickerdoodle-meets-heat isn’t scary enough, Blumhouse has unleashed a new Cheetos short film celebrating the release from writer-director Joe Grode.

More officially, Sweet Phantom Heat Puffs are a “limited time snack designed to fizz, tingle and even leave your mouth feeling numb.” It is indeed spicy; you just have to get past the sugary sweetness first.

When Bill, an office worker trapped in the soul-crushing cycle of corporate America, tries new Cheetos The Flavor of Fear, an exhilarating experience reminds him what it means to feel alive in the new Blumhouse short film.

As Cheetos’ website cheekily warns, “Cheetos is not liable for any scares, jumps, discomfort, sweating, chills, squirms, sleep-loss, thrown chips, involuntary screams, or nightmares that may result from watching the following.“

“Cheetos and Halloween have always shared a spirit of playful mischief, and every year we look for new ways to surprise fans with unexpected snacking experiences,” said Jess Spaulding, senior vice president of marketing at PepsiCo Foods U.S. “With Cheetos Sweet Phantom Heat Puffs, we’ve created a first-of-its-kind flavor that’s layered with sweetness, heat, and a unique tingling sensation. It’s an experience designed to keep fans guessing with every bite and delivers the irreverent twist they’ve come to expect from Cheetos.”

Grab a bag here, if you dare.

After creeping its way onto the big screen earlier this month, creature feature Don’t Move is heading to Digital soon.

Don’t Move, based on the 2020 novel of the same name by co-authors James “Murr” Murray and Darren Wearmouth, arrives on Digital on October 13 from Well Go USA Entertainment.

In Don’t Move, a church group’s annual retreat turns deadly when they wander into the wrong part of the Ozark wilderness, and something starts picking them off one by one.

Suspicion falls on Ricky, the troublemaker of the group. But the real threat is far worse. Deep in the forest, wrapped in a labyrinth of webs, the group is pursued by a terrifying prehistoric arachnid that hunts by vibration. When every step could be their last, they only have one choice: Don’t Move.

It’s up to Megan to hold what’s left of the group together and get them out alive.

Lyndsy Fonseca (Kick-Ass), Russell “Russ” Vitale, and Tom Cavanagh (The Flash) star alongside Hunter King (Life in Pieces), Rob Riggle (The Hangover), and Joseph Lee Anderson (Young Rock). Expect plenty of cameos, including T-Pain, Matt Biedel, and “Impractical Jokers” members James Murray and Brian Quinn.

Maclain Nelson (Vamp U) directed from the script he co-wrote with Murray and Wearmouth.

The creature feature is the first under Murray’s new banner, Impractical Studios, designed to bring his authored works and love of horror to mainstream audiences. Don’t Move is produced by Murray, David M. Wulf (The Card Counter, Call Jane), and Ethan Berman.

A24 has announced its cast today for No One is Coming, a new Anglo-Irish horror film from Ronan Corrigan, the filmmaker behind the screenlife thriller LifeHack.

In typical fashion, plot and character details are under wraps at this time.

Corrigan directs from a script co-written with LifeHack collaborator Hope Elliott Kemp.

Louis McCartney (Stranger Things: The First Shadow), Jessica Reynolds (Lifehack), Sky Yang (Whistle), and Gabriel Nagy (Extra Geography) have been set to star in the mysterious new A24 horror movie.

That’s not much to go on at this time, but LifeHack is a strong debut for Corrigan, with the high-stakes cyber-heist thriller making a strong showing on the festival circuit beginning with its SXSW premiere. It’s also inspired by a true story.

Also on the way from A24 is Jeremy Saulnier’s Slayground. The label also recently boarded V/H/S: SCP and will bring the tenth installment of the anthology series to the theatres for the very first time.

Guillermo del Toro’s masterpiece Pan’s Labyrinth is back in theaters for its 20th anniversary this Halloween season, and a new featurette spotlights not only the practical effects but taboo-breaking dark fantasy horror.

Watch Jacob Elordi and more weigh in on why Pan’s Labyrinth couldn’t be made today, as well as the creature effects that make it such an enduring classic. Beware major plot spoilers, though, if you’ve yet to see del Toro’s Oscar-winning feature.

Bloody Disgusting’s parent company Cineverse is teaming up with Fathom Entertainment for Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth 20th Anniversary release, in theaters October 9.

Pan’s Labyrinth will be presented theatrically for the first time by Cineverse and Fathom in 4K, and with versions available in both 3D and HDR by Barco – the dedicated HDR viewing solution offering up to 6 times higher peak luminance.

Each version for this re-release has been overseen by Guillermo del Toro.

The Academy Award-winning dark fantasy is set in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War and follows a young girl, Ofelia, as she meets an ageless Faun who tells her she’s a princess and that she must prove her worthiness by completing three dangerous tasks.

Written and directed by Guillermo del Toro and produced by his company, Tequila Gang, the 2006 dark fantasy film stars Ivana Baquero, Maribel Verdú (Y tu mama tambien), Doug Jones (Hellboy II), and Sergi López (Dirty Pretty Things).

Guillermo del Toro has made one thing crystal clear about the 2006 film’s upcoming theatrical release in 3D and HDR: “absolutely no goddamn AI” was used any step of the way. The maestro of monsters is also giving away three hand-drawn doodles for ticket buyers.

Grab your tickets from AMC Theatres, Regal, Fandango, and Fathom Entertainment.

Jason Isaacs (“The White Lotus”) casts a vampiric spell on Nell Verlaque (Thanksgiving) in our exclusive trailer and poster debut of gothic horror fantasy Vampire Carnival.

Aura Entertainment is releasing the film in theaters on October 7.

The trailer below blends dark fantasy, mystery, and psychological horror as a dazzling carnival setting becomes a vampire feeding ground.

Vampire Carnival follows “a grieving young woman drawn to a mysterious traveling carnival that appears without warning in her small town. Seduced by its eerie spectacle and promises of escape, she soon discovers that the carnival is a gateway to a hidden world where vampires feed not on blood, but on human despair. As she becomes ensnared in its seductive illusions, she must confront the trauma she’s been running from—or risk becoming the carnival’s next permanent attraction.”

David Charbonier & Justin Powell (The Boy Behind the Door, The Djinn) direct from a script by Jason Filardi (17 Again, “Chapelwaite”) and Peter Filardi (The Craft, Flatliners).

Paulina Chávez (“Landman”), Kieron Moore (“Vampire Academy”), Eoin Macken (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter), Alicia Sanz (“From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series”), Cedrick Cooper (“Boots”), Corrado Martini, Alvise Rigo, and Elisabeth Sanjuán round out the cast.

Roger Corbi, Dominic Rustam, and Christian Mercuri are producing, with Jason Filardi, Peter Filardi, and Roman Viaris serving as executive producers.

Vampire Carnival is rated R for “strong bloody violent content, sexual content/nudity, drug use and language.”

Dark Sky Films announced today that it has acquired U.S. distribution rights to paranoid thriller Sender, starring Britt Lower (“Severance”) and produced by Jamie Lee Curtis.

Sender will be released nationwide in spring 2027.

The acquisition news arrives ahead of the film’s Los Angeles premiere at Beyond Fest and European premiere at the 59th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival.

Sender marks the debut feature from writer-director Russell Goldman, whose script first appeared in the 2023 Black List of unproduced screenplays.

Lower stars as Julia, who was fired three weeks ago. She also got sober three weeks ago. She’s starting over in a suburban rental, and doing a lot of online shopping to help make the space her own, fast.

When packages she didn’t order start showing up at her door — a blender, a corkscrew, her signature shade of lipstick — they feel so unnervingly tied to her past that it starts to feel like someone is watching her.

The shopping site Smirk denies responsibility. Increasingly paranoid, Julia tumbles down a rabbit hole to find the identity of her anonymous sender.

Rhea Seehorn (“Pluribus”), Anna Baryshnikov (Love Lies Bleeding), David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil), Utkarsh Ambudkar (“Ghosts”), Mike Mitchell (“Twisted Metal”), Edward Torres (Return to Sender), Alyssa Limperis (“What We Do in the Shadow”), and Inger Stratton round out the cast along with Jamie Lee Curtis.

“The dream of any filmmaker is finding a distributor that understands your film and wants to put it in front of as many eyeballs as possible,” said Russell Goldman. “SENDER isn’t the kind of film that fits neatly into a box, which makes it especially meaningful that the entire MPI and Dark Sky team has a real vision for its nationwide theatrical release. I’m grateful to JLC, Britt, Jake, Molly, Thomas and the entire cast and crew, and proud our film will be at the home as some of the most exciting films of the decade. To use one of JLC’s favorite phrases, “Let’s f–king go.”

“What drew us to SENDER was how confidently Russell takes a familiar anxiety and turns it into something completely unexpected,” said Greg Newman, Executive Vice President of Dark Sky Films. “It’s smart, unsettling and darkly funny, with an incredible cast that keeps you invested at every turn.”

All-star “American Horror Story” Season 13 sees its cast reprising their roles from previous seasons, leaving a big question mark over who AHS newcomer Ariana Grande would’ve played had her Eternal Sunshine Tour not caused a schedule conflict.

Series creator Ryan Murphy provided the answer in a new chat with THR, revealing that AHS: 13 wouldn’t just revisit all previous seasons, it also would’ve introduced a “Scream Queens” crossover for the first time ever.

“It was funny because at one point I was going to have the Scream Queens come on to this season, but Ariana was touring and I couldn’t make it work,” Murphy told THR. “But she was like, ‘I still want to do it! I just can’t be on tour.’ So I was like, ‘All right, let me think of it.’”

Grande played Chanel #2 in the 2015 horror-comedy series that ran for two seasons, but her character was killed off very early. That doesn’t mean much in the world of AHS, and Murphy hasn’t given up on “Scream Queens” or bringing Grande back.

“Sometimes it takes a while,” Murphy said. “But it was the tour which I knew. She warned me in advance that it was gonna be really hard to schedule, and the weekend we had to shoot it, she was touring, but I said, ‘OK, I’ll bump it down the road,’ so I haven’t given up. I love her.”

There’s still hope for a future “Scream Queens” crossover or revival yet, just not in “American Horror Story” Season 13.

Ryan Murphy‘s hit FX horror anthology will return for its lucky thirteenth season on Thursday, September 24 at 9 p.m. ET on FX and Hulu, streaming globally on Disney+.

The official logline reads…

“An unrivaled 13th installment that will do justice to everyone’s most feared number. Bringing together an all-star cast, many of whom are reprising fan-favorite roles from AHS past, American Horror Story Season 13 builds on the anthology’s legacy that has been streamed more than 700 million hours across the globe and spawned a legion of dedicated fans.

Returning favorites this season include Jessica Lange, Emma Roberts, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, John Carroll Lynch, and Mat Fraser. Newcomers for Season 13 include Mena Suvari (American Beauty), Berto Colon (“The Night Agent”), and cult filmmaker John Waters.

Netflix continues to venture into video games, this time with a surprising expansion of The Conjuring universe with the upcoming game The Conjuring: Unspoken.

The cinematic, cloud-based game will arrive sometime in October, with exact timing to be announced. It’s currently listed as “coming soon.“

That means that there are no additional images or gameplay details at this time, including how or when exactly it ties into the larger franchise. We do know that it takes place at a haunted hotel that’s brand new to the series.

The official synopsis reads: “What is haunting the Red Lion Inn? Scan for paranormal signals and investigate the eerie events troubling a grieving family in this cinematic game.“

It sounds as though players will take over for Ed and Lorraine Warren on the investigating.

This will be the first stand-alone game in the series; Fortnite previously included The Conjuring: Last Rites themed map ahead of the film’s release last year.

There are currently nine films in The Conjuring universe — The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun 2, and last year’s The Conjuring: Last Rites. Matt Donato recently ranked every single movie in the hit saga, and you can read that ranking article right here.

Upcoming prequel movie The Conjuring: First Communion is headed to theaters on September 10, 2027.

Netflix Games are available on Android and iOS devices. All you need is a Netflix subscription – there are no ads, fees, or in-app purchases. Simply open your Netflix mobile app, find the ‘mobile games row ’, and download to play more than 75 different mobile games available now, with a new Conjuring game arriving this Halloween season.

Stay tuned for more as we learn it.

Hereditary and Midsommar writer-director Ari Aster is directing Scapegoat next, and Deadline reports that Jude Law (The Third Day, The Talented Mr. Ripley) is in negotiations to co-star opposite previously announced star Scarlett Johansson.

As is always the case with Aster’s work, plot details are being kept under wraps. Even the genre is unknown at this time, other than it’s a thriller that will be distributed by A24.

Jacob Elordi (Guillermo del Toro‘s Frankenstein) also recently joined the cast.

Speculation thus far suggests Scapegoat is either about a doctor who operates on an internet-famous person, a sci-fi romance, or a drama. Time will tell, of course, but Aster tends not to take the straightforward approach with his films.

Scapegoat is slated to enter production soon, accommodating Johansson’s busy production schedule. The Oscar nominee just wrapped on Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist and is shooting The Batman: Part II this summer.

Aster established himself as a modern master of horror with the one-two punch of 2018’s Hereditary and 2019’s Midsommar. He went on to helm Beau Is Afraid in 2023, followed by Eddington, which premiered at Cannes last year.

Veteran independent film producer and Cartuna founder James Belfer has launched a new home video label, Video Visions, and its initial lineup, including Dead Lover and X-Rated Fuck My Son!, is available for preorder now.

The company will release Limited Edition, Collector’s Edition, and Standard Edition Blu-rays; the discs will be designed in close collaboration with filmmakers and sold directly on Video Visions’ website.

As of today, the online store is open for business, with a physical store titled Video Visions Too in Chatham, NY, set to open its doors in 2027.

The press release notes that titles in the collection run the gamut from “festival darlings to fringe favorites, and lean toward visceral, provocative, experimental, and DIY works that will get the canonical treatment Belfer feels they deserve.”

Included in that are upcoming physical releases of Grace Glowicki’s Dead Lover, with a Stink-O-Vision card included; the rotoscope-animated folk-horror and Latvia’s 2026 Oscar entry Dog of God; and a collector’s edition of Todd Rohal’s Fuck My Son!

The former is a theatre lover’s dream, whereas the latter exploitation flick is designed to offend. Joe Lipsett wrote in his TIFF review, “But the film is frustratingly repetitive, particularly in the saggy back half when it is too content to rely on rape jokes and simply screaming its own title for comedic effect. By the time Fuck My Son! reaches the first of its two drawn-out endings (denoted by separate title cards), the film might as well be torturing us alongside Sandi.”

Indie comedy darling Hundreds of Beavers is also available, complete with furry slipcase.

Vidio Visions’ upcoming slate is below, but which titles drop each month remains a mystery until a pre-order window opens each lunar cycle.
