Tusk – The Walrus Reveal
I really, really enjoyed Tusk, but I know not everyone did. It seemed like the film lost people the moment Johnny Depp showed up, but that is where I became sold on the movie. I walked in expecting a straight-up comedy, and I got a movie that definitely made me laugh, but also made me cringe. The reveal of Justin Long going “full walrus” is one of the most shocking things I have ever seen (though from what I’ve read, a lot of people thought it was dumb), and it is best seen with a theater full of people, because hearing the reactions in the audience was priceless. I thought Smith balanced the two different tones extremely well, but I realize that is not the popular opinion with Tusk. It’s not a movie for everyone, but I think if you can go in with an open mind you will definitely be entertained. And while it was a bit on the nose, the climactic walrus battle set to Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk was pure bliss for me as a film-goer.
