Oculus – The Light Bulb
Oculus has its fair share of disturbing moments (the Band-Aid/fingernail switcheroo comes to mind) but this is the only one I could find a full clip for. It’s a real shame this moment was ruined in the trailer, but that doesn’t make this scene any less disturbing. I loved Oculus and was surprised to see that the majority of the people who saw it were not as enthused about it as I was. Anyway, watching Karen Gillan (Doctor Who, Guardians of the Galaxy, Selfie) bite into that light bulb was really painful to watch. Director Mike Flanagan lingers on Gillan’s pained face as she realizes what she has just done. It’s not gory in the slightest, but I winced as she pulled the large shard of glass out of her mouth.
