Paul Mantz – The Flight of the Phoenix
Another stunt pilot, Mantz died flying an aircraft specifically made for The Flight of the Phoenix. His plane hit a small hill in the desert and, after trying to recover, his plane broke in two and took a nosedive, killing Mantz instantly. His death was memorialized in the ending credits for the film.
