Hostel: Part II
The first Hostel is a fun, gory film, but the lead characters are all assholes. They are so unlikable, in fact, that it makes re-watching the film nearly impossible. Eli Roth can sometimes have a problem with “bro-ness” in his films (something that hopefully won’t be present in The Green Inferno, but I digress), which is why Hostel: Part II is such a breath of fresh air. Not only did the film have a sense of humor about itself that the first film was sorely lacking, but the lead actresses are likable and it hurts to watch them die. Even Heather Matarazzo’s annoying Lorna gets a death scene so brutal you have to feel bad for her. That’s more than you can say for anyone in Hostel (well, maybe Derek Richardson’s character, but that’s about it).
