The Last House on the Left
I actually like this remake quite a bit, but the ending still leave a bit to be desired. First, the microwave bit is just silly. It’s the final shot of the film and was also spoiled in the trailer. The third act as a whole is unsatisfying because it peaks early. Francis’ (Aaron Paul) death is the highlight of the film in terms of catharsis, and it’s the first one. Sadie’s (Riki Lindhome) death lacked any kind of emotional punch because it was too quick. Maybe I’m a sadist, but I hate it when villains get just a quick bullet to the head. Then Krug gets microwaved. The Last House on the Left is one of the better horror remakes that we’ve been offered, but it’s third act nearly derails it.
