The Descent: Part 2
Remember how beautiful, heartbreaking and poetic the unrated ending to Neil Marshall’s original film was? The Descent: Part 2 spits in that ending’s face and goes for the cheap jump scare. Not only does it bring Juno (Natalie Mendoza) back in a silly final act twist, but it has her team up with Sarah (Shauna Macdonald) where the both get killed. Then Elen (Krysten Cummings), this silly character that no one cares about, escapes only to get knocked out by an old man in a twist that rips off The Hills Have Eyes, thrown next to the hole she crawled out of as a crawler jumps out to grab her. It is the epitome of sloppy seconds, and a completely unsatisfying ending for these characters. Just pretend it doesn’t exist.
