Hannibal (February 9, 2001)
Mabe Hannibal isn’t the best horror film to includes on this list, but I like it. Released almost exactly 10 years after its predecessor, it’s a completely different beast in every shape, way and form. The re-casting of Jodie Foster (she didn’t want to be in the film) didn’t help matters, but Julianne Moore is probably the best replacement the film could have seen. Also putting people off was the fact that it takes a good 40 minutes for Lecter to even make an appearance (did they forget that he was on screen in The Silence of the Lamb for about 16 minutes?). Still, it’s a grisly, mean film that is a tough watch, but you can’t deny that it’s a compelling film. I may be in the minority, but I wish it would have kept the ending from Thomas Harris’ novel where Clarice and Hannibal run away together and become lovers (and no, that isn’t a joke).
