The Wicker Man
This film makes no sense to me, in a genius way. I shouldn’t find it sinister, but it’s genuinely unsettling. Majestic countryside coupled with playful folk music throughout, but suddenly you get a curveball. Whether it’s the animal masks watching, or the beetle in the school desk, or the genuinely horrifying ending. The atmosphere this film creates is a total dichotomy. You’ve got a group of people merrily singing away while a man burns to death, unable to reason or bargain and escape. This always stays with me for a day or two afterwards.
